Stability and Integrity

Ever since Edgar Schein (1978) coined the phrase career anchors , the phrase has recurred in books on careers. Schein meant by his metaphor those talents that we see ourselves as possessing which, together with our values and motives, guide our career choices, and serve to stabilize and integrate our careers over time. 

Vitamin A is necessary for growth and reproduction, resistance to infection, maintenance and differentiation of epithelial tissues, stability and integrity of membrane structures, and the process of vision. In terms of the last function, vitamin A is a component of rhodopsin or visual purple, a photosensitive pigment in the eye that is needed for vision in dim light. An early mild clinical symptom of vitamin A deficiency is night blindness a severe deficiency of this fat-soluble vitamin results in xerophthalmia, an eye condition leading to blindness. 

Of course, the notion of system survivability is more capacious and informative. By system ecology many authors mean the stability and integrity of the system in short, the system s ability to resist external forcings. In other words, survivability is measured by the tendency of the system to suppress large oscillations of its structure and elements, returning the system to its former equilibrium state. Thus, system survivability should be understood as its ability to actively resist the impact of external factors and preserve its characteristics indefinitely. 

Molecular recognition or specific hydration in the internal cavity of protein is of substantial importance for the stability and integrity of protein structure itself. In this section, we present an example of such phenomena. 

The Liquid Master Store at Roche uses a 96-tube version of the microtube plate described in Section 1.4 a description of the 96-tube plate is found on the web site www.remp.com. The individually accessible tubes in 96-tube plates in the Liquid Master Store hold a few definite sample volumes, e.g. 26 J,L and 140 J,L per tube. Storage and retrieval of HTS master solutions with fixed sample volumes facilitate the sample logistics considerably. Upon retrieval from the Liquid Master Store, the master solutions in the 96-tube plates are thawed and transferred to 384-well plates before they enter the downstream aliquoting process. This sample-handling concept avoids repetitive freeze-thaw cycles of HTS master solutions and thereby improves the stability and integrity of the compound samples used in HTS.

Compared to the highly variable 0-antigens, the core region has limited variations. For example, there are five types of core structures in E. coli, designated Kl, Rl, R2, R3, and R4. The permeability of gases depends also on their solubility in polymer matrix, which is adjusted by the strength of interactions between gas molecules and the functions existing in/on the macromolecular chains, by material crystallinity, by temperature and by free-volume extent. The barrier formed by the new inter-molecular bridges produced during radiation crosslinking is an additional specific element that slows down gas transport in the detriment of polymer stability and integrity.

Since different metals and manufacturing processes are possible, a proper choice is mandatory. The selection of the metallic substrate obviously depends on the work conditions (temperature, atmosphere, etc.), but other key points, such as the fabrication process, weldability, mechanical and chemical properties, inertness during reaction, corrosion resistance, and, of course, the easiness of the catalyst deposition and the stability and integrity, both physical and chemical, of the catalytic layer, must also be considered. 

Superabsorbent polymeric materials are loosely crosslinked polymeric networks. The majority of these materials can absorb a considerable amount of water and retain it for a long period of time. These networks also possess good mechanical stability and integrity. Commercial superabsorbent polymers are based on polyacrylates which are anionic in nature, mainly sodium salt of poly(acrylic acid) [1].
