Basic copper ethanoate arsenates(iii) prepared from verdigris (or other basic copper salt), sodium arsenate(m) and ethanoic acid. Used in insecticides for spraying fruit trees. Readily decomposed to soluble arsenic compounds so use is very restricted. [Pg.156]

Hydantoin itself can be detected ia small concentrations ia the presence of other NH-containing compounds by paper chromatography followed by detection with a mercury acetate—diphenylcarba2one spray reagent. A variety of analytical reactions has been developed for 5,5-disubstituted hydantoias, due to their medicinal iaterest. These reactions are best exemplified by reference to the assays used for 5,5-diphenylhydantoiQ (73—78), most of which are based on their cycHc ureide stmcture. Identity tests iaclude the foUowiag (/) the Zwikker reaction, consisting of the formation of a colored complex on treatment with cobalt(II) salts ia the presence of an amine (2) formation of colored copper complexes and (3) precipitation on addition of silver(I) species, due to formation of iasoluble salts at N. ... [Pg.255]

Thermal spray processes can be used to give coatings of chromium carbide or nickel chromium for erosion resistance, copper nickel indium for fretting resistance, tungsten carbide cobalt for wear and abrasion resistance, and even aluminum siHcon polyester mixtures for abradabiHty. [Pg.134]

Flame spray metallising is widely used for the protection of metal against corrosion, especially for in situ protection of stmctural members. The principal metal used for spraying of plastics is sine. Aluminum and copper are also used. If the distance from the part is too great, the zinc solidifies before it touches the part and adhesion is extremely poor. If the molten zinc oxidizes, conductivity and adhesion are poor. If the distance is too short, the zinc is too hot and the plastic warps or degrades. These coatings are not as dense as electrically deposited coatings because of numerous pores, oxide inclusions, and discontinuities where particles have incompletely coalesced. [Pg.135]

Plants can also be pests that need to be controlled, particulady noxious weeds infesting food crops. Prior to 1900, inorganic compounds such as sulfuric acid, copper nitrate, sodium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and potassium salts were used to selectively control mustards and other broadleaved weeds in cereal grains. By the early 1900s, Kainite and calcium cyanamid were also used in monocotyledenous crops, as well as iron sulfate, copper sulfate, and sodium arsenate. Prom 1915 to 1925, acid arsenical sprays, carbon bisulfate, sodium chlorate, and others were introduced for weed control use. Total or nonselective herbicides kill all vegetation, whereas selective compounds control weeds without adversely affecting the growth of the crop (see Herbicides). [Pg.141]

This conversion is normally accompHshed by immersion, but spraying, swabbing, bmshing, and electrolytic methods are also employed (178) (see Metal SURFACE treatments). The metals that benefit from chromium surface conversion are aluminum, cadmium, copper, magnesium, silver, and 2inc. Zinc is the largest consumer of chromium conversion baths, and more formulations are developed for 2inc than for any other metal. [Pg.143]

The CASS Test. In the copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) test (42), the positioning of the test surface is restricted to 15 2°, and the salt fog corrosivity is increased by increasing temperature and acidity, pH about 3.2, along with the addition of cupric chloride dihydrate. The CASS test is used extensively by the U.S. automobile industry for decorative nickel—chromium deposits, but is not common for other deposits or industries. Exposure cycle requirements are usually 22 hours, rarely more than 44 hours. Another corrosion test, now decreasing in use, for decorative nickel—chromium finishes is the Corrodkote test (43). This test utilizes a specific corrosive paste combined with a warm humidity cabinet test. Test cycles are usually 20 hours. [Pg.151]

The chromatograms stained with ninhydrin are immersed in the reagent solution for 1 s or sprayed evenly with it and then placed in the free half of a twin-trough chamber containing 25% ammonia solution. Apart from proline and hydroxyproline, which yield yellow copper complexes, all the amino acids yield reddish-colored chromatogram zones [3],... [Pg.246]

A mixture of 10% aqueous copper(II) sulfate solution and 25% ammonia solution (100 -I-15) is recommended as spray solution for the detection of diuretics. [Pg.249]
