Specification flexibility

Allows site- and situation-specific flexibility in LOE, including the possibility of tiering and/or adding additional studies (Chapman, 1996). [Pg.309]

Hexapus in water solubilizes cholesterol, phenol blue (Kassoc = 1.0 x 104 M 1), naphthalene, and hydrophobic esters. Thus, hexapus seems non-selective in its binding characteristics (just like micelles). Universal binding has the advantage that almost any water-insoluble compound can be collected by the host molecule without regard to subtle structural variations. On the other hand, potential catalysts based on hexapus and other multi-armed systems would not be expected to manifest high specificity. Flexible chains do not lend themselves to a precise fit. [Pg.9]

Computational assessment of the likelihoods of occurrence and the relative stabilities of polymorphs is not necessarily more effective than the experimental approach. Whilst great advances have been made in the field of ab initio crystal structure prediction (CSP), as documented in five international blind tests spanning the years 1999-2010 [5], it is still not routinely possible to predict whether a molecule is likely to be polymorphic or to confirm whether the most thermodynamically stable structure has been found experimentally, especially for molecules of the complexity of a typical drug. It is possible to compute the polymorph landscape for a specific flexible molecule, but the calculations require considerable expertise, and the timescales and computing resources can render CSP impractical for application to even a limited portfolio of candidate APIs. [Pg.16]

Order Specification Flexibility - The flexibility in configuration, due date, delay, quantity, and order-splitting is usually higher under a partnership-based or B2B relationship. Therefore, sophisticated ATP models that can take full advantage of the order specification flexibility should be employed in these settings. [Pg.457]

A specific flexible Fabry-Perot interferometer sensor t3rpe allows almost stress-free deformation measurement with high static and dynamic resolution because one fiber end is able to slide inside the sensor tube. This sensor type can be used to measure deformations of soft materials, of materials bonding zones or of curing materials without reaction to the measuring object, e.g. [28]. [Pg.327]

In selected cases described in this section, batteries provide the main source of propulsion of the vehicle. However, hybrid systans are beconung more popular due to their specifications flexibility and variety of different power source devices available for hybridization [45]. In hybrid power systems, batteries can be coupled with fuel cells, capacitors, supercapacitors, hydrocarbon fuel engines, or diesel generators. The role of the battery in such hybrids is typically to assist in loadbalancing and/or to provide more efficiency in meeting power requirements [46]. More detailed discussion of hybrid power systems is included in Chap. 6 of this book. [Pg.106]

This conformational diversity is clearly caused by the specific flexibility of the Gly conformation, which does not suffer from any steric hindrance produced by the absence of a side chain. The same study on a capped Ala-Phe sequence (see Fig. 8) exhibits only two conformers those two in which a steric hindrance appears when substituting Gly by Ala are rejected at energies too high to be observed. Put in other terms, Yo-tums and type IF p-tums are specific to Gly residues and are not observed in other natural residues because of the presence of a side chain [200]. [Pg.249]

For the refiner, the main problem is to meet the specifications for kinematic viscosity and sulfur content. Dilution by light streams such as home-heating oil and LCO, and selection of feedstocks coming from low-sulfur crude oils give him a measure of flexibility that will nevertheless lead gradually to future restrictions, most notably the new more severe antipollution rules imposing lower limits on sulfur and nitrogen contents. [Pg.241]

We cite isomerization of Cs-Ce paraffinic cuts, aliphatic alkylation making isoparaffinic gasoline from C3-C5 olefins and isobutane, and etherification of C4-C5 olefins with the C1-C2 alcohols. This type of refinery can need more hydrogen than is available from naphtha reforming. Flexibility is greatly improved over the simple conventional refinery. Nonetheless some products are not eliminated, for example, the heavy fuel of marginal quality, and the conversion product qualities may not be adequate, even after severe treatment, to meet certain specifications such as the gasoline octane number, diesel cetane number, and allowable levels of certain components. [Pg.485]

An experienced inspection engineer will attempt to identify the characteristics of a given structure to determine potential. specific critical damage mechanisms. No individual major concrete structure can be adequately analysed by simple mass-accumulation of data and using criteria, which are based on standard codes. This does not mean that either data-collection or available criteria are not useful, but they should be exercised with care and flexibility and the procedures for inspection customised for the given structure. [Pg.997]

Direct measurement of the interaction potential between tethered ligand (biotin) and receptor (streptavidin) have been reported by Wong et al [16] and demonstrate the possibility of controlling range and dynamics of specific biologic interactions via a flexible PEG-tether. [Pg.1742]

Atom types represen t the chemical environment of an atom. The atom types associated with a given force field could be hard-wired to have specific vahiesand meaning. llyperChem also allows flexible definitions of the atom types and the associated chemical en vironmen Is. Th e ch em ical en viron men t of an atom (a set of rules for defining a type) and the default rules are in a standard ASCII text file, chem.nil. included with llyperChem. You can modify this file and compile it m a binary form that llyperChem... [Pg.170]

Ethylene. Under the influence of pressure and a catalyst, ethylene yields a white, tough but flexible waxy sohd, known as Polythene. Polyethylene possesses excellent electric insulation properties and high water resistance it has a low specific gravity and a low softening point (about 110°). The chemical inertness oi Polythene has found application in the manufacture of many items of apparatus for the laboratory. It is a useful lubricant for ground glass connexions, particularly at relatively high temperatures. [Pg.1015]

With the results of the preceding section thus salvaged, let us look in more detail at the specific areas of discrepancy between the perfectly flexible model... [Pg.55]

The combination of durability and clarity and the ability to tailor molecules relatively easily to specific applications have made acryflc esters prime candidates for numerous and diverse applications. At normal temperatures the polyacrylates are soft polymers and therefore tend to find use in applications that require flexibility or extensibility. However, the ease of copolymerizing the softer acrylates with the harder methacrylates, styrene, acrylonitrile, and vinyl acetate, allows the manufacture of products that range from soft mbbers to hard nonfilm-forming polymers. [Pg.171]

The properties of commercial rigid foamed plastics are presented in Table 2. The properties of commercial flexible foamed plastics are presented in Table 4. The definition of a flexible foamed plastic is that recommended by the ASTM Committee D 11. The data shown demonstrate the broad ranges of properties of commercial products rather than an accurate set of properties on a specific few materials. Specific producers of foamed plastics should be consulted for properties on a particular product (137,138,142). [Pg.408]

Fillers. These are used to reduce cost in flexible PVC compounds. It is also possible to improve specific properties such as insulation resistance, yellowing in sunlight, scuff resistance, and heat deformation with the use of fillers (qv). Typical filler types used in PVC are calcium carbonate, clays, siHca, titanium dioxide, and carbon black. [Pg.327]

Specific terms have been designated according to the function and composition of various roUs. Steel roUs that impose pressure, transmit heat, and emboss a pattern onto the fabric are known as pattern roUs. Flexible surface roUs that transport the fabric and permit pressure transmission to the fabric are termed bowl roUs or bowls. Bowl roUs are usually larger in diameter than pattern roUs. The material used to make these types of roUs is chosen according to the depth of surface smoothness to be placed on the fabric being calendered, and must be compatible with the pattern roU. Cellulose pulp, cotton, wool, cotton—wool mixtures, com husk, and various polymer materials are used as fillers for the roU surface compound. [Pg.156]
