Special-purpose coatings

Special purpose coatings include those coatings that do not fit under the definition of architectural or product coatings. About 16% of the volume (6.1 X 10 m ) of United States coatings, value 2.62 biUion in 1990, falls into this category (1). [Pg.357]

The major coatings markets in the United States consist of architectural coatings (consumer and decorative), product finishes (maintenance/protective coatings for bridges, industrial machinery, etc.), and special-purpose coatings, such as automotive finishes ((OEM) and refinish) (Table 29.1).1... [Pg.1295]

The paint manufacturing industry produces a variety of products. These products are used to protect, preserve and beautify the objects to which they are applied. In general, paints are classified by their proposed function or service applications such as architectural coatings, industrial coatings, special purpose coatings, varnishes, lacquers, etc. The characteristics of most important classes are summarized below. [Pg.238]

Many different end uses of special purpose coatings such as marine, aircraft, barrier coatings, and the like are involved and are not included here. [Pg.245]

Special-purpose coatings include heavy industry corrosion control coatings as well as marine and automotive refinishing. The distribution of corrosion-related special-purpose coatings is shown in Table 4.4. [Pg.209]

The value of special-purpose corrosion control coatings represents 79% of the 2896 billion special-purpose coatings market in 1997. [Pg.209]

Special-purpose coatings are formulated for special applications or extreme environments and include automotive and machinery refinishing, high-performance maintenance, road markings, marine (bridge) maintenance, crafts, metallic and multicolored coatings. [Pg.275]

From the point of view of applications, coatings are grouped into architectural, product coatings and special purpose coatings. [Pg.65]

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce Census Bureau, the total amount of organic coating material sold in the United States in 1997 was 5.56 x 10 L, at a value of 16.56 billion. The total sales can be broken down into architectural coatings, product original equipment manufacturers (OEM) coatings, special-purpose coatings, and miscellaneous paint products, with approximately one third of the total sales for the main purpose of corrosion protection [1]. [Pg.587]

Table 27.6 lists types of coatings used in industrial and special purpose coatings by technology. Chemark-based forecasts show increased usage of all types of materials in 1996 except for conventional noncompliant coatings, lacquers, and nonaqueous dispersions. Overall, consumption of solvent-based materials is expected to decline from a 74 percent level in 1986 to 63 percent in 1996. This compares to an 85 percent level in 1975. [Pg.1055]
