Space plant design

A space station design that requires less space walk time is inherently safer than a design that requires more. If the astronauts don t need to go outside, they have less risk. For chemical plants, designs or operating regimes that reduce or eliminate vessel entries are inherently safer. [Pg.101]

Cooling load The quantity of heat to be removed from a process or a space in order to meet the plant design or environmental conditions. [Pg.1425]

FW supply and on-off/modulation mechanisms. The on-off supply of FW tends to create cold-zone stratification within the boiler, leading to reduced steam production rates and misting (fogging) in the steam space. Boiler plant designs that provide for the continuous provision of FW through a modulated FW supply prevent these problems. [Pg.280]

Fig. 1 (derivada do 6, mas modificada) shows a plant design that exempts the worker presence, except near the control panel. The residue monitoring should be included in the system. It must embrace the environment and obviously all processed products and discharges. Among several options, gas chromatography, especially the one with head space, has been the most adjusted. [Pg.3521]

The flow of fluids is fundamental to many processes, and a thorough knowledge of the behavior of fluids under flowing conditions is vital for the safe and economic operation of a process plant. Furthermore, to make a reliable plant design and an accurate assessment of the energy requirements that will be needed to move fluids around the plant when it is built, an engineer relies on the accurate prediction of fluid behavior in the various items of equipment that constitute the plant. The discussion in this section is aimed at providing an indication of the principles of fluid flow. The limitations of space, however, have of necessity curtailed that discussion to the fundamentals. The reader is directed to the many books that have been published on the topic some of them are referred to in the text. [Pg.985]

The 4S reactor assembly and plant design are shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, respectively. The diameter of the reactor vessel is 2.5 m and the area of the nuclear building is 26m x 16m, thus requiring only a small ground space. [Pg.159]

Both the plant design and its construction employ many types of specialist, who must interact at thousands of interfaces (and often work simultaneously in the same plant space envelope) to produce a co-ordinated product. [Pg.2]

Control of plant-space. Keep design development under constant review, and note how each item of space is occupied by each discipline. Identify operator and maintenance space up front, and prevent encroachment. If you are not in control of the plant-space, you are not in control of the project. [Pg.312]

Allowance of space, plant configuration, connections, over-capacity of equipment, or other design features to allow for future plant expansion or possible modification. [Pg.320]

The pressure in the PHTS of a CANDU 6 reactor is controlled by a pressurizer connected to the outlet headers at one end of the reactor. Pressure in the pressurizer is controlled by heaters in the pressurizer and by steam bleed. Heavy water in the pressurizer is heated electrically to pressurize the vapor space above the liquid. The volume of the vapor space is designed to cushion pressure transients, without allowing excessively high or low pressures to be generated in the HTS. (Nuclear power plants that do not allow the coolant to boil in the channels, do not use a pressurizer, and rely on the feed-and-bleed system for control.)... [Pg.152]

Here /x is a measure function calculating the size of the corresponding space. For instance, in two dimensions, it represents the area, and in three dimensions, it represents the volirme. This index would be particularly useful in analyzing the operability of existing plant designs as it indicates how much of the desired process output region is achievable with the available inputs. If the index is less than one, it implies that our expectations are higher than that the process can... [Pg.102]

For new plant designs, or while considering design changes to an existing plant, it will be more useliil to analyze the problem in the input space. Similar to the previous equation, a servo operability index in the input space can be defined as ... [Pg.103]

Also the demand for in-process controls (IPCs) and documentation will be higher compared to non-GMP operations. The plant design needs to consider space for laboratories and offices. [Pg.23]

One of our problems with the crystallizer was that we tried to extract information from a series of experiments in which only space velocity was varied. This is standard procedure in pilot plant design. [Pg.17]
