Solvent-based adhesives textiles

Solvent-based adhesives are particularly suitable for the bonding of porous materials, such as paper, cardboards, wood, cork, leather, textiles and foams.

For polyvinyl chloride (PVC), rubber, linoleum, cork, textile, and polyolefin floor cover, dispersion-based adhesives have been used almost exclusively. The only exceptions are molded surfaces (e.g., stairs) and the fitting of skirting boards. These applications use solvent-based contact adhesives because of their higher initial adhesion advantages in processing (Geiss 2006a). 

Lamination. la lamination a film is prepared by caleaderiag or extmsioa (see Laminated materials, plastic). It is thea adhered to a textile at a laminator by either an adhesive or sufficient heat which partially melts the film to obtain a mechanical bond. There are a variety of adhesives available for lamination, including solvent systems, water-base latex systems, and various forms of hot melt adhesives (qv). 

Solvent-home urethanes are still widely used to bond leather and athletic shoes. The OEM automotive market uses some solvent-home urethanes together with chlorosulfonated polyethylene as a primer. Some urethane solvent-home packaging adhesives are used for cap liners and for paper and foil lamination. Some textile laminating applications are still based on solvent-home urethanes.
