Urethane resins

The Showa Denka Company practices this reaction with a PX—MX mixture (24), whereas Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company uses high purity MX first to form the dicyanide (25). In both processes, hydrogenation to the diamine follows. y -Xylenediamine is reacted with phosgene to give / -xylene diisocyanate, which is used in urethane resins (26—28). [Pg.414]

Nitrocellulose based lacquers often contain short or medium oil alkyds to improve flexibiUty and adhesion. The most commonly used are short oil non drying alkyds. Amino resins or urethane resins with residual isocyanate functional groups may be added to cross-link the coating film for improved solvent and chemical resistance. The principal appHcations are furniture coatings, top lacquer for printed paper, and automotive refinishing primers. [Pg.41]

Such polyurethanes have excellent hydrolytic stability compared to water-reducible polyesters and superior abrasion resistance. In view of the importance of developing low solvent emission coatings, considerable effort is being devoted to new types of water-borne urethane resins (62,63). [Pg.341]

Several coats of resin are applied to the prepared substrate at approximately 4- to 6-hour intervals, with one or more coats being dressed with colored paint flakes which are sealed in by the next coat and then lightly sanded. This type of flooring was widely marketed about ten years ago but, in the main, they were considered unsatisfactory due to rapid discoloration of the floor because of the lack of ultraviolet stability of the urethane resins used, which rapidly turned yellow-brown and looked dirty. However, ultraviolet-stable urethane resins that do not suffer this discoloration are now available, and this type of durable decorative flooring is gaining re-acceptance (for example, for kitchens, toilets and reception areas). [Pg.103]

The aliphatic hydroxy groups have been used as the polyol component of urethane resins (6). In many of these applications phenolic hydroxy groups have been alkoxylated to afford more aliphatic alcohols. [Pg.350]

In an earlier investigation by the authors (2) poly(carbonate-co-urethane) resins consisting of 1,6-hexanediol, dimethyl carbonate, and 4,4 -diphenylmethanedi-isocyanate were prepared and used as flexible thermoplastic polyurethane resins. [Pg.528]

POROMER1C. A term coined to describe the microporosity, air permeability, and water and abrasion resistance of natural and synthetic leather. The pores decrease in diameter from the inner surface to the outer and thus permit air and water vapor lo leave lire material while excluding water from the outside. Polyester-reinforced urethane resins have been used as leather substitutes with some success, primarily for shoe uppers. [Pg.1358]

Our results and conclusions need much further study to resolve. Experiments on simpler systems need be made to isolate the various phenomena or determine their origin. In particular, time-resolved thermal analyses need to be performed on monoacrylate urethane resins and on polyacrylate, nonhydrogen bonded resins to more fully understand the mechanistic variety observed. [Pg.192]

Blocked or partially blocked isocyanates have been extensively employed in cationic electrodeposition. Polymeric compositions employed for cationic electrodepositable coatings have been reviewed by Kordomenos and Nordstrom (82A). Matsunaga et al. (83) were the first to synthesize cationic thermosettable urethane resins. The system described was prepared from an isocyanato-terminated polyurethane prepolymer by reacting the free isocyanato groups with a tertiary amine that had at least three hydroxyl groups. The... [Pg.996]

Compatibility of nitrocellulose with a wide variety of commercial urethane resins v as readily established. Laboratory work was needed, however, to develop useful formulations with excellent properties. The aliphatic-type isocyanate resins now available produce industrial coatings with good initial color and good color stability when combined with nitrocellulose. [Pg.1081]

U.S. Pat. No. 6,702,969 [27] discloses a composite material prepared by mixing a thermoset resin, such as phenolic resin, urea resin, melamine resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, and mixture thereof, to bind wood pieces and a filler, such as natural and synthetic graphites, metal, carbon, and other similar compounds and then-mixtures. [Pg.80]
