Soft spots

The presence of crimp in the tow is necessary to ensure that the tow can be packaged, processed, and handled easily and to impart bulk to the finished filter. To achieve the latter in the production of the filters, it is necessary to open the tow band (Fig. 12b) to the desired bulk so that the fibers completely fill the paper wrap without voids and soft spots.

Toxicologically relevant biotransformation ( hot spots ) and positions of metabolic attack ( soft spots ) can be identified by structure elucidation of metabolites generated in vitro to support medicinal chemists in improving metabolic characteristics (Nassar and Talaat 2004b). In addition, structure elucidation of metabolites generated in vitro plays an important role because in vivo elucidation affords intense clean-up procedures besides the higher effort necessary to generate the samples.

Bone is developed by two methods. Membranous development involves bone formation directly from cartilaginous tissue. Osteoblasts directly deposit calcium and other mineral in this mesenchymal-derived tissue. The preceding sections have summarized briefly what is involved in automatic process control and how control problems may be attacked quantitatively. In the course of the presentation some soft spots have been manifest. For one thing it is clear that we do not know how to specify the kind of controlled behavior that is optimum for a given plant or process. General or approximate specifications can be given but they are not optimal. Actually, control quality specification can be made only on the basis of the disturbances affecting the process, and at the present time there is virtually no reliable knowledge about process disturbances and where they apply. 

The rapid structure identification of metabolites provides an early perspective on the metabolically labile sites or soft spots of a drug candidate [86], This information is useful during lead optimization and can serve to initiate research efforts that deal with metabolism-guided structural modification and toxicity.
