The bioadhesive characteristics of tablets for oral use made from modified starch, poly(acrylic acid), polyethylene glycol) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose were recently investigated [406]. In this work, the force and energy adhesion were determined in vitro, and maximum adhesion times were evaluated in vivo in humans [406], In the in vitro, studies, the poly(acrylic add) gave the best performance, however in vivo bioadhesion was not strongly correletated with... [Pg.34]

The TEMPO - sodium hypochlorite - sodium bromide system has been applied to starch ether derivatives, particularly hydroxyethyl starch, which has a primary hydroxyl group on the hydroxyethyl ether group that can also be oxidized to a carboxyl group and carboxymethyl starch. The apparent goal was improved sequestering agents via higher carboxyl content and the proper multidentate conformations... [Pg.639]

In recent times, modified starches especially sodium carboxymethylated derivative, commercially known as sodium starch glycolate (SSG), and pregelatinized starches have been evaluated as super disintegrant (i.e., agent for dispersing the solid drug within a few minutes or making a dispersible tablet). Further, many researchers have explored various other starch sources for sodium carboxymethyl derivative of starch, which is officially known as SSG. ... [Pg.577]

The potash contains clay minerals, often as slime. This clay represents a large surface area and adsorbs the alkylamine collector. This is detrimental to the potash flotation, and therefore several methods are used to dispose of the clay. Mechanical de-sliming using hydrocyclones and hydroseparators is common practice. Slime flotation is often used. In this, the clay minerals are separated in a pre-flotation step by using a polymer and a non-ionic surfactant, for example, polyacrylamide and ethoxylated fatty acid, respectively. An alternate way is to depress the clay minerals with polymers such as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), potato starch and lignosulfonate. [Pg.346]

Adhesives used in size formulations include starches (natural such as potato, maize or sago, or chemically modified, e.g. starch ethers), natural gums (guar, carob or locust bean flour), gelatin, Polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid, vinyl and acrylic resins and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC). [Pg.35]

Starch is a natural plant product and it has been modified to the carboxymethyl-ated form (CMS—carboxymethyl starch). Carboxymethylation of starch occurs in two steps involving sodium salt of CMS. [Pg.132]

Starch, cooked in the paper mill or supplied as - pregelatinized starch, is used also. Modified starches (- oxidized starch, - cationic starch or - starch ethers) are common in that application. Sodium - carboxymethyl cellulose is also effective, but as an anionic polymer, it requires a retention aid such as alum. [Pg.215]
