Soap additives

Bar Soap Additives. There are a variety of additives that may be formulated into soap bars to provide additional consumer benefits or modify the performance of the products. 

The sodium soaps of fatty acid form calcium soaps of such low solubdity that they act as their own budders. Initial soap additions precipitate the calcium ion and the soap added thereafter functions in soft water. At high temperatures, the calcium soaps are relatively soluble compared to calcium tripolyphosphate. Thus sodium tripolyphosphate (STEP) can budd (revert) soaps in a hot water wash. However, at low temperatures the relative affinity of STEP for calcium decreases so that STEP cannot budd soaps in a cold water wash. 

SENSITIVITY - Cap sensitive when loaded at a density of. 86 G/cc or less. Sensitive to a small dynamite booster (V4 stick) to loading density of 1.2 G/cc. These figures are for a slightly confined charge (can, bottle or paper tube) at 5 cm. in diameter. Lower loading densities with the "soap" additive will allow a reduction of the useable charge diameter to 4 cm. while retaining 8 cap sensitivity. 

The modified Cade handwash procedure is suboptimal, particularly in that the antimicrobial efficacy is evaluated primarily in terms of reductions in normal microbial flora, which is not appropriate for evaluating consumer antimicrobial hand soaps. Additionally, it measures the residual antimicrobial effectiveness of the test product, not the immediate effects. Finally, a control product is rarely used, so assuring the validity of tlie study is not possible.

TBS disposes of excellent bactericidal properties. It was mainly used as an active ingredient in deodorizing soaps addition rate max. 1%. However, its application generally has been largely stopped because of the sensitizing activity.
