Abstract This chapter introduces the context and aims of this book. In addition, it provides a detailed description of industrial production systems including their life cycle, stakeholders, and data integration challenges. It also includes an analysis of the types of intelligent engineering applications that are needed to support flexible production in line with the views of current smart manufacturing initiatives, in particular Industrie 4.0. [Pg.4]

In order to meet their initial requirements, several manufacturers have developed digital communications capabilities for communicating with smart transmitters. These can be used either in addition to or in lieu of the 4-20 milliamp signal. Although most manufacturers release enough information on their communications features to permit another manufacturer to provide compatible instruments (and in some cases provide an open communication standard), the communications cap ihty provided by a manufacturer may be proprietaiy. [Pg.768]

The majority of electrochemical cells to have been constructed are based on PEO, PAN, or PVdF [101]. Recently, the Yuasa Corporation have commercialized solid polymer electrolyte batteries, primarily for use in devices such as smart cards, ID cards, etc. To date, the batteries which have been manufactured and marketed are primary lithium batteries based on a plasticized polymer electrolyte, but a similar secondary battery is expected [120]. [Pg.516]

Since about one decade, the development of fast experiments containing low number of RF pulses and delays to improve sensitivity and reduce the experimental time has been an active research area. It is likely that this area will involve many NMR spectroscopists for the next years. Current "fast methods" such as non-linear sampling, Hadamard and SMART techniques take a few seconds to produce 2D spectra. While these methods are currently rather mysterious for most of the scientists, there is absolutely no doubt that they will be provided by the NMR manufacturers in the next years. It is therefore likely that most of the HMBC spectra will be obtained in only a few minutes in a near future, which opens new perspectives. [Pg.350]

There are at least a dozen semiconductor manufacturers making the popular 384x series controllers. All of them behave slightly differently. The same applies to any other semiconductor device made by several vendors. Be cautious of so-called equivalents. So if your company s smart-alecky purchase officer has just cooked up a new deal to procure your 1N5408 diodes at half price (from some hitherto unknown manufacturer on the Mainland, for example), replace it and confirm that it is not causing the problem. [Pg.188]

Two main fields of application have been explored fine chemistry/ pharmacy (Hessel et al. 2004a) and fuel processing (Hessel et al. 2005d). A few investigations target manufacture of bulk chemicals or intermediates. In addition, the production of smart and functional materials is the focus, such as pigments (Wille et al. 2004), encapsulated delivery... [Pg.208]

New technology is being combined with smart materials called micromachines, machines that are smaller than the width of a human hair. Pressure and flow meter sensors are being investigated and commercially manufactured. [Pg.608]

Pressure sensors that give temperature-corrected, linear, analog voltage output are available from Motorola and other manufacturers. In such sensors, the on-chip electronics correct any temperature effects and nonlinearities in the output of the piezoresistors. The on-chip electronics replace a shoebox-size collection of printed circuit boards. The price of this kind of smart sensor is considerably less than 100. The integration of a large amount of circuitry on the chip allows functions like amplification, offset correction, self-testing, autocalibration, interference reduction, and compensation of cross-sensitivities (6). [Pg.391]

Prismatic 9 V three-cell batteries, and 6 V two-cell ultrathin batteries are also manufactured. The former is designed as a high capacity replacement for aqueous zinc primaries and the latter for smart cards. [Pg.128]

Do not reset this high-temperature trip above the manufacturer s specifications, without prior consultation with the equipment manufacturer. Ladies and gentlemen, you can imagine how I became so smart on this subject. [Pg.387]
