Finally, metal objects can sometimes be fabricated in their entirety by electrodeposition (electroforming), with much the same considerations as electroplating. Since its accidental discovery in the early 1930s in Great Britain from the failure of a chemical reaction under pressure, researchers efforts have been driven toward obtaining a PE with specific chemical, mechanical, and thermal characteristics for the fabrication of complex-shaped tools, or for use in adverse environmental eonditions. To obtain and keep the required product quality, agglomerates that are formed by external pressure must maintain their shape and density after release of the pressing force and removal from the die. If residual elastic deformation is present within the compact, elastic recovery, accompanied by an increase in volume, will occur when the pressure is released and the part is ejected from the die or leaves the shaping tools.
