Shape polyurethane systems

The above analysis takes the synthesis methods, the performance affected by the dispersion of CNTs, enhanced physical properties and the latest applications of carbon nanotube/polyurethane composites described in literature reports as the reference point. In the interest of brevity, this is not a comprehensive review, however, it goes through numerous research reports and applications which have been learned and described in the recent years. Despite that, there are still many opportunities to synthesize new carbon nano-tube/polyurethane systems and to modify carbon nanotubes with new functional groups. The possibility of producing modern biomedical and shape memory materials in that way makes the challenge of the near future. [Pg.170]

Adhesive-coated expanded PS shapes have been used as an alternative to foam-inplace polyurethane systems (see Section 13.1.3). The shapes are deposited into a corrugated box, covered with a release film, the product added, another sheet of release film put in place, and the carton filled with the adhesive-coated shapes. When the water-based adhesive dries, a pair of resilient cushions surrounds the product. [Pg.341]

Recently, the Maitland group has returned to a thermosetting polyurethane system, developed in-house [48], and combined the technology with superelastic Nitinol wires with electro-resistive heating [49, 50]. In the most recent embodiment, the SMP is cast around a Nitinol wire in its predetermined coiled shape (Fig. 4). The... [Pg.153]

This process is a take-off from compression molding that uses solid material male and female matching mold halves. This unique process uses a precision-made, solid shaped heated cavity and a flexible plunger that is usually made of hard rubber or TS polyurethane. This two-part system can be mounted in a press, either hydraulic or air-actuated. Rather excellent product qualities are possible at fairly low production rates. The reinforcement can be positioned in the cavity and the liquid TS resin is poured on it. Also used are prepregs, BMC, and SMC. [Pg.477]

A more selective approach consists in trying to influence the kinetics of formation of at least one network in this case, the two networks are formed more or less simultaneously, and the resulting morphology and properties can be expected to vary to some extent without changing the overall composition. The same system as previously studied, PUR/PAc, has been utilized in order to prepare a series of in situ simultaneous IPNs (SIM IPNs), by acting essentially on two synthesis parameters the temperature of the reaction medium and the amount of the polyurethane catalyst. Note that the term simultaneous refers to the onset of the reactions and not necessarily to the process. The kinetics of the two reactions are followed by Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy as described earlier (7,8). In this contribution, the dynamic mechanical properties, especially the loss tangent behavior, have been examined with the aim to correlate the preceding synthesis parameters to the shape and temperature of the transitions of the IPNs. [Pg.446]

The successful utilization of Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) to fabricate complex polyurethane shapes In a single step from relatively low viscosity streams has led to a search for other chemical systems which can be fabricated by the RIM process. The rapid polymerization of molten caprolactam by anionic catalysis has been utilized to develop attractive nylon RIM systems. The incorporation of a rubber segment In the polymer chain allows the fabrication of high Impact or even elastomeric nylon parts. The combination of a rubber phase with the high melting (215°C) crystalline nylon phase provides useful properties at low temperatures as well as at elevated temperatures. [Pg.135]

Several sponge delivery systems made from polyurethane and impregnated with a potent progestagen. They are cylindrical in shape with a string (tail) fitted to aid removal at the end of treatment period. [Pg.320]

BP Chemicals have developed a polyurethane (PU) system for the production of integrally-molded sand-insulated carpets. The carpet is laminated with a PU backing to improve shape retention. It is then placed in a mold and PU foam is injected to fill the space between the car floor contours and the carpet. A carpet made with the system has been in use in the Fiat Turbo Uno. [Pg.771]

Dickert et al. [58-61] had introduced the in situ synthesis of polyurethanes as very versatile system for the preparation of thin MIP films, especially due to the excellent film forming properties of the polymer. These materials had been especially successful for imprinting of templates without a distinct functional group, i.e., recognition was based mainly on shape complementarity. This system could also be useful for imprinting large templates such as cells [61]. [Pg.463]
