Serial file

Some experiments involve more than one FID For example, DEPT analysis (Chapter 7) performs a 13C experiment four times with different parameter settings 2D experiments involve collections of up to 750 similar FIDs. These can be combined in a single binary file. The FIDs are just listed one after the other in a single continuous list of data that Bruker calls a serial file. Varian treats these multiple FID files in the same way as single-FID files, so they can be used for arrayed experiments (a set of ID experiments acquired by varying some parameter such as pulse width) or for 2D experiments. The file name is the same in either case that is, fid Bruker uses the filename fid only for single FIDs, and instead uses ser for the binary data of all serial files. 

In contrast to a ID experiment, at the beginning of a 2D experiment a serial file containing a fixed number of blank FID data files is generated in persistent memory. The two dimensional matrix consists of tdl files, with a size of TD with each file corresponding to one time increment in the 2D matrix. A pointer is used to instruct the computer to transfer the accumulated data for each time increment from temporary memory to the correct persistent file. The pointer is then incremented for the next element. This whole procedure is executed by the pointer command if 0. The zd command occurs after the if 0 command and deletes the buffer contents. The 2D loop is closed by the command lo to label. In this instance label is a number or a string that is entered in the first position of the line where the next time increment in the 2D matrix will be started. 

Check it 5.2.7.2 demonstrates the experimental Tj determination using the inversion recovery method as a pseudo 2D experiment and the separation of the resulting serial file into the corresponding ID files. 

Although both the search terms and the data-base terms can be put into alphabetic order, normally only one is in fact done. This process is called, inversion and the ordered file is known as an inverted file . The other list is then processed serially, from beginning to end, dining the matching process, and is therefore known as a serial file . 

Real Time X-Ray images are stored on CD ROM/XA. Compared to film the volume for a storage is reduced by a factor 50. Retrieving is easy since information of the location is given in the directory of the diskette. Normally the directory name is the shop order and the file name is the serial number of the part. The directory and file names can be customised. 

In most places, the available information about any pump, such as the manufacturer, year of purehase, model and serial number is plaeed in a file for general aeeounting purposes. In other plants, such as a manufaeturer, the model, lubricant and lubrication frequency is placed in a lubrication schedule. In either case, additional key information ean be stored with a little more effort.

Each object has the ability to serialize itself and also to initialize itself from a serialized representation. If the programming language has a reflective facility, you can write a single piece of code to determine the structure of the object and perform serialization and initialization. Java serialization works this way. Of course, flat files do not provide any of the multi-user, concurrency, meta-data, schema evolution, transaction, and recovery facilities that a database provides. 

Which storage medium and platform an object is in (database, serialized in file, main memory, on a listing, in a bar code, on a magnetic stripe card, and so on)... 

With GRAPHICAL ANALYSIS running, choose Import from the TI Calculator under the FILE MENU. If the Tl-graph link cable is not connected to the serial port designated in the status box, click on SELECT PORT and choose the correct port for the Tl-graph link cable. 

Once a paper of interest has been identified, all the crystallographic information in that paper can be examined because the crystal serial number of the paper can be used in the crystallographic search system to retrieve that information. Alternatively, the CAS Registry number of any particular compound can be used to retrieve any data of interest on that compound from other files of the CIS. 

Finally, I should mention a word about filing technical papers. It is tempting to keep a file of papers by subject, and this is satisfactory for collections of 100 to 200 papers, but beyond that a more systematic method is necessary. Ben Wylie, my dissertation advisor, filed his papers by unique serial number and uses an ingenious system of cross-referenced index cards for retrieving papers by author, title, or subject. I ve adopted the same serial-number system, but I use a computer database to cross reference the file records. I use that database online to help locate a needed reference at a moment s notice. 

This Job buttons option is most convenient and an alternative to the Serial Processing option to manually process a few or even series of data files in the same way. 

For processing a series of data files, e.g. NOE or T, data files, in an unattended way, the same pre-defined or user defined job files may used. To select the data files to be processed a special Automatic Serial Processing dialog must be opened with the Serial Processing command located in the File pull-down menu (Fig. 5.33).

Note Alternatively a serial job could be defined with file algebra applied to the spectra rather than the FIDs. 

Set up a serial job file to process the standard H, standard C and three C-DEPT FIDs of peracetylated glucose, D NMRDATA GLUCOSE 1D H GH 001001.FID. D NMRDATA GLUCOSE 1D H GH 001001.FID and D NMR DATA GLUCOSE 1D H GH 001001 to. .. 003001.FID respectively. Create a subdirectory D NMRDATA SERPROC and copy the five files into this directory using increasing experimental numbers ... 

From the File pull-down menu choose the Serial Processing option. Select the files D NMRDATA SERPROC 001001.FID to. .. 005001. FID and choose the use different Jobs option. Click the Define diff. Jobs... button and in the new dialog box use the Select Job... button to assign the previously saved job files H.JOB, C.JOB and CDEPT.JOB to the correct data files e.g. H.JOB to. .. SERPROC 001001.FID. Start the serial processing with the Excecute button and inspect the result. If you are not satisfied with the result adjust the individual jobs to suit your requirements. 

The mass spectral data used in this tabulation were available in a card file containing a card for each of the 10 most prominent peaks in the 4000 referenced mass spectra. These cards were filed serially by nominal mass number with separation within each m /e by order of abundance in the particular mass spectrum. Thus, at m/e 123 in this file there appeared a card for each compound in which m/e 123 was one of the 10 most abundant ions in the mass spectrum. Cards for all compounds in which m/e 123 was the largest peak in the spectrum appeared...

The simplest of the formats used to transfer data into word processing applications is the ASCII (.ASC). ASCII is a standard set of 128 binary codes used by all computers to represent all the characters presented on the normal or shifted keyboard plus control codes, originally intended for use on teletypewriters. These code allow us to display lower case leters, capital letters, numbers, and punctuation marks, but formatting codes for underline, boldface, and italics are not included in ASCII, and are removed in converting formats. ASCII files have space-separated code and can be sent out over a modem or a serial cable to another computer and applications importing ASCII code. 

The electronic IND also features the use of the roadmap.pdf. This is the recommended entry point for the electronic submission. The roadmap, pdf should contain functional hypertext links to the original submissions main TOC and to each subsequent submission s TOC. You should include the submission serial number found in the prefix of each file for that submission (see Appendix A). You should update and resubmit this file with each amending submission. As a result, the roadmap.pdf always will contain a current comprehensive submission history that will enable a reviewer to easily access the original IND and its subsequent amendments through their main TOCs.

Use a descriptive name for the file up to a total of 28 characters. This is a total of 32 characters including the four-digit serial number.
