Fig. 2 (a) Earlier efforts to design asymmetric additions to imino compounds required two separate modifications to substituents of the C=N bond to accomplish both activation and stereocontroi. (b) With chiral A-acyihydrazonc acceptors, the carbon branch (R1) of the imine may be varied freely, enabling improved versatility... [Pg.64]

Cyanoaldehydes are not easily accessible by other routes but are interesting synthetic intermediates, since the two terminal function groups are in different oxidation states which readily allow separate modification or elaboration. The general applicability of the method described herein allows the synthesis of a wide variety of -cyanoaldehydes from available cycloolefins. [Pg.30]

Note Costs may be calculated for these factors to support the indicated values with economics. In this project, investment estimates were provided for major equipment, heat exchangers of alternate metallurgy, and terminal separator modifications. [Pg.98]

For many applications, e.g. in the area of sensing, catalysis or separations, modifications of the inorganic backbone are required to provide a certain specific surface chemistry or active sites on the inner pore surface. Different routes, such as simple inclusion of molecules, or the covalent attachment of functional entities, are applied. Because of the specific synthesis strategy, the structure-directing agent can also be used for functionalization of the mesostructured material. Only in situ modifications are discussed postsynthesis modifications of the final porous material are, in principle, possible, but are beyond the scope of this article. [Pg.454]

The j8-Ca (between 300 and 464°C), imtil now considered a separate modification, is actually an alloy of Ca and impurities. The purer the metal, the more slowly it tarnishes in the air. It reacts rather slowly with water at ordinary temperatures, but the reaction becomes more vigorous on warming. With dilute acids, the reaction is violent. [Pg.926]

However, in most cases, covalent modifications can be either activation or deactivation and are normally energy-dependent and reversible, but catalyzed by separate enzymes. These include phosphorylation/dephosphorylation, adenylylation (nucleotidyla-tion)/deadenylylation and ADP-ribosylation (Stadtman and Chock, 1978). This cyclic interconversion of key enzymes between covalently modified and unmodified forms is a mechanism of singular importance in cellular regulation. The interconversion of an enzyme between the active and inactive forms involving separate modification and demodification (i.e. different converter enzymes) is a dynamic process that may lead to a steady state in a cascade system. The covalent interconversion of regulatory enzymes is characterized by ... [Pg.375]

For this kind of case, a modification of the dilution method is being developed. Instead of using an external fixed-geometry measurement chamber, a suitable part of the process, e.g. a stretch of pipe, is used. A radiation detector is mounted on the outside of the pipe, and a tracer emitting sufficiently hard gamma radiation is used. As sufficient mixing can be achieved by injecting upstream the separator the radiation level found will be strictly proportional to the concentration and thus inversely proportional to the true flow rate. [Pg.1056]

The modification of the surface force apparatus (see Fig. VI-4) to measure viscosities between crossed mica cylinders has alleviated concerns about surface roughness. In dynamic mode, a slow, small-amplitude periodic oscillation was imposed on one of the cylinders such that the separation x varied by approximately 10% or less. In the limit of low shear rates, a simple equation defines the viscosity as a function of separation... [Pg.246]

The procedure of Mason and Evans has the electrical analog shown in Figure 2.2, where voltages correspond to pressure gradients and currents to fluxes. As the argument stands there is no real justification for this procedure indeed, it seems improbable that the two mechanisms for diffusive momentum transfer will combine additively, without any interactive modification of their separate values. It is equally difficult to see why the effect of viscous velocity gradients can be accounted for simply by adding... [Pg.16]

The experimental details already given for the detection and characterisation of aliphatic esters (determination of saponification equivalents h3 diolysis Section 111,106) apply equally to aromatic esters. A sfight modification in the procediu-e for isolating the products of hydrolysis is necessary for i)henolic (or phenyl) esters since the alkaline solution will contain hoth the alkali phenate and the alkali salt of the organic acid upon acidification, both the phenol and the acid will be hberated. Two methods may be used for separating the phenol and the acid ... [Pg.786]

A careful consideration of the results of the above tests will provide much useful information and will indicate which of the foUowing general procedures should be apphed and the modifications which are necessary. Thus if nitrogen is absent, it is doubtful whether the separation for bases would be necessary. [Pg.1094]

The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is a modification of the Poisson equation. It has an additional term describing the solvent charge separation and can also be viewed mathematically as a generalization of Debye-Huckel theory. [Pg.210]

The HyperChem MMh- code and program also differ from MM2(1977) by having parameters in text files separate from the code. These parameter files are available for your modification and additions. The parameters distributed with HyperChem include the public domain values, generally referred to as the MM2(1991) parameter set, that Dr. Allinger contributed to HyperCube, Inc. Parameters not obtained from Dr. Allinger are appropriately labeled in the distributed parameter files. [Pg.102]

The homopolymer mixture shows only a minor modification of the two Tg values. This suggests that the two homopolymers are concentrated in separate phases of almost pure polymer. [Pg.184]

Elastomeric Modified Adhesives. The major characteristic of the resins discussed above is that after cure, or after polymerization, they are extremely brittie. Thus, the utility of unmodified common resins as stmctural adhesives would be very limited. Eor highly cross-linked resin systems to be usehil stmctural adhesives, they have to be modified to ensure fracture resistance. Modification can be effected by the addition of an elastomer which is soluble within the cross-linked resin. Modification of a cross-linked resin in this fashion generally decreases the glass-transition temperature but increases the resin dexibiUty, and thus increases the fracture resistance of the cured adhesive. Recendy, stmctural adhesives have been modified by elastomers which are soluble within the uncured stmctural adhesive, but then phase separate during the cure to form a two-phase system. The matrix properties are mosdy retained the glass-transition temperature is only moderately affected by the presence of the elastomer, yet the fracture resistance is substantially improved. [Pg.233]

Acryhc stmctural adhesives have been modified by elastomers in order to obtain a phase-separated, toughened system. A significant contribution in this technology has been made in which acryhc adhesives were modified by the addition of chlorosulfonated polyethylene to obtain a phase-separated stmctural adhesive (11). Such adhesives also contain methyl methacrylate, glacial methacrylic acid, and cross-linkers such as ethylene glycol dimethacrylate [97-90-5]. The polymerization initiation system, which includes cumene hydroperoxide, N,1S7-dimethyl- -toluidine, and saccharin, can be apphed to the adherend surface as a primer, or it can be formulated as the second part of a two-part adhesive. Modification of cyanoacrylates using elastomers has also been attempted copolymers of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene ethylene copolymers with methylacrylate or copolymers of methacrylates with butadiene and styrene have been used. However, because of the extreme reactivity of the monomer, modification of cyanoacrylate adhesives is very difficult and material purity is essential in order to be able to modify the cyanoacrylate without causing premature reaction. [Pg.233]

Unique adsorption selectivities are employed in the separation of Cg aromatic isomers, a classical problem that caimot be easily solved by distillation, crystallisation, or solvent extraction (10). Although -xylene [106-42-3] can be separated by crystallisation, its recovery is limited because of the formation of eutectic with / -xylene [108-58-3]. However, either -xylene, / -xylene, (9-xylene [95-47-6] or ethylbensene [100-41-4] can be extracted selectively by suitable modification of seoUtic adsorbents. [Pg.292]

In the precoat mode, filter aids allow filtration of very fine or compressible soHds from suspensions of 5% or lower soHds concentration on a rotary dmm precoat filter. This modification of the rotary dmm vacuum filter uses an advancing knife continuously to skim off the separated soHds and the... [Pg.389]
