Separation index

The documents that define the calibration process themselves are derived documents and therefore will be governed by your control procedure. They do not need to be listed along with all your other control and operating procedures in the index of quality system documents. A separate index of calibration methods should be maintained. Calibration methods are like test and inspection procedures, they are product specific. 

For each unknown element listed in Data Table 1, copy its chemical and physical properties onto separate index cards. Be sure to record the letter of the unknown element on each index card. The following abbreviations are used in Data Table 1 IP = ionization potential, BP = boiling point,... 

For the card-based method, individual identification numbers for items (plates or animals, for example) are placed on separate index cards. These cards are then shuffled, placed one at a time in succession into piles corresponding to the required test groups. The results are a random group assignment. 

The ASTM D-3948 Water Separation Index, Modified (WSIM) Test is used to identify the emulsifying tendencies of additives in jet fuel. A high concentration of film-forming corrosion inhibitors has been shown to severely degrade the water separation tendencies of jet fuel. Treat rates as low as 20 ppm of some inhibitors can degrade the WSIM to a failing rating. 

NOTE This test is often called the Water Separation Index, Modified (WSIM) test, named after the original water separation index procedure. 

Once you have found sources you think you will use for your research, you should make a list of your sources. You will use the list later for your Bibliography or Works Cited list. Some people make a separate index card for each source. Others just prepare a numbered list of the sources or make a folder for each source with a photocopy of the copyright page on top. You can also use computer software that is made to specifically orga-... 

Other studies have tried to relate sizes of draft tubes, locations and sizes of baffles, circulation rate, and so on to crystallization behavior. So far the conclusions are not general enough to do a designer much good. A possibly useful concept, the separation index (SI), is mentioned by Mullin (1976, p. 293) ... 

Where possible, commercial sources of reagents, kits, and equipment are listed throughout the text instead of in a separate index. Extensive references are provided to facilitate the task for those readers who may wish to consult the literature for additional information on specific topics. All books can be improved, and this volume is no exception. I welcome constructive criticism from my colleagues and students. Finally, we consider a preliminary approach for the optimal synthesis of reactor-separation systems. The older British patents have been thoroughly indexed in a number of publications of the British Patent Office. The 50-year subject index (1861) to 1910) is especially valuable, a separate index having been provided for each class the patents in each subdivision are in chronological order (182). 

These equations are less suited for peak pairs of highly unequal area and for asymmetric peaks. In such cases the peak separation index (PSI) is a better criterion PSI = 1 - j.
