The adhesive was developed for application to seal food containers with alumina foils and to seal glass plates. In this case, the vinyl polymerization step can be carried out by UV light radiation through the already mounted glass plates with a photoactive radical initiator to cure the viscous adhesive material. For ruthenium, electrolytes based on ruthenium sulphamate or nitrosyl-sulphamate have been described, but the most useful solutions currently available are based on the anionic complex (H2 0 Cl4 Ru N Ru-Cl4-OH2) . The latter solutions operate with relatively high cathode efficiency to furnish bright deposits up to a thickness of about 0-005 0 mm, which are similar in physical characteristics to electrodeposited rhodium and have shown promise in applications for which the latter more costly metal is commonly employed. The introduction of the sample into the adsorbent layer is a critical process in HPTLC. For most quantitative work a platinum-iridium capillary of fixed volume (100 or 200 nL), sealed into a glass support capillary of larger bore, provides a convenient spotting device. CombiCHEM System (Fig. 3.9) For small-scale combinatorial chemistry applications, this barrel-type rotor is available. It can hold two 24- to 96-well microtiter plates utilizing glass vials (0.5-4 mL) at up to 4 bar at 150 °C. The plates are made of Weflon (graphite-doped Teflon) to ensure uniform heating and are sealed by an inert membrane sheet. Axial rotation of the rotor tumbles the microwell plates to admix the individual samples.
