Seal imperfect

Agronomic Properties and Nutrient Release Mechanisms. The mechanism of nutrient release from SCU is by water penetration through micropores and imperfections, ie, cracks or incomplete sulfur coverage, ia the coating. This is followed by a rapid release of the dissolved urea from the core of the particle. When wax sealants are used, a dual release mechanism is created. Microbes ia the soil environment must attack the sealant to reveal the imperfections ia the sulfur coating. Because microbial populations vary with temperature, the release properties of wax-sealed SCUs are also temperature dependent. [Pg.135]

Check both mnning faces of the seal (seal ring and insert) and be sure there are no nicks or scratches. Imperfections of any kind on either of these faces will cause leaks. [Pg.952]

In a sealing situation, leakage past the elastomer, outside and around its surface, usually due to imperfections in the housing this applies especially in a dynamic arrangement if the sealing stress diminishes due to relaxation, wear, and/or thermal contraction... [Pg.633]

Construction film is already in common use as a subslab vapor barrier in many areas of the country. The current prevalence and low cost of this material mean that it may be worthwhile to continue its use even though it is an imperfect barrier. It is possible to seal polyethylene vapor barriers at the overlapped edges, at penetrations, and at the footing but it may be that the extra effort will not be rewarded with improved radon resistance. [Pg.1284]

In Sweden, subslab membranes are not required in high-radon areas and a tightly sealed slab is considered to be a more effective radon barrier. The difficulty of achieving a completely sealed, intact subslab membrane is widely acknowledged however, a subslab barrier may be worthwhile even if it is imperfectly installed. Polyethylene construction him (6-mil) can serve as a backup radon barrier to the concrete slab, even though it is not a complete radon barrier by itself. The barrier may continue to function, even with punctures, if incidental cracks and holes in the slab are aligned with intact areas of polyethylene. [Pg.1284]

When exposed to the atmosphere, sodium amide rapidly takes up moisture and carbon dioxide. When exposed to only limited amounts, as in imperfectly sealed containers, products are formed which render the resulting mixture highly explosive.1 The formation of oxidation products is accompanied by the development of a yellow or brownish color. If such a change is noticed, the substance should be destroyed at once. This is conveniently accomplished by covering with much benzene, toluene, or kerosene and slowly adding dilute alcohol with stirring. [Pg.46]

Transient and Steady-State Conditions From the landmine studies we readily conclude that the source term for these molecules has an initial spike, or increased rate, in the days or weeks after the mine is placed. This rate then decreases to some more or less constant level and may remain at that level for years. The initial spike comes from surface contamination, while the long-term rate is primarily from diffusion through the case and seals or leakage through imperfections or damage. The rates are clearly subject to environmental factors, principally temperature and soil wetness. Nevertheless, it seems clear that, at least in the case of landmines, there is a continuing flux of molecules that provide a potential for detection. [Pg.76]

The softness and ductility of indium make it an excellent material for sealing gaskets. Indium easily deforms under pressure, filling imperfections of the mating surfaces being joined. Indium retains most of its softness and plasticity to temperatures approaching absolute zero, making it usable in... [Pg.80]

Theoretically smoke or vapor injected under slight pressure from a smoke chamber into a package will find imperfections and channels in the seal and deposit particles at the locations of leakage. This method is difficult to perform, as the... [Pg.657]

Several Surlyn-sealed cells were exposed to outdoor conditions over a period of one year. Major failures only occurred due to imperfect sealing and ageing effects on the electrical contacts. The results of the best performing cells are shown in Fig. 7.9 and it can be seen that the efficiency remains remarkably constant after one year of outdoor exposure. [Pg.287]

Welding Control. Plugs in the inner and outer capsules for the sales packages and industrial sources are seal-welded with an argon-shielded or helium-shielded tungsten electrode DC arc. The capsule is rotated under the automatically controlled arc to produce a minimum weld penetration of 1.27 mm. Each weld bead is visually inspected by periscope or by Questar telescope, and imperfectly formed welds are rejected. Weld quality is controlled by periodic metallographic examination of dummy capsules welded in the in-cell equipment. [Pg.276]

Seals are those elements that create or maintain process boundaries between system components and/or subassemblies in order to ensure system integrity in validated process and utility systems. Seals must be biocompatible (able to be in contact with bacteria or mammalian cells without interfering with their metabolism or ability to live and multiply), must be corrosion and permeation resistant, their surface finishes must be free of molding imperfections and foreign matter on surfaces within the sealing area, and shall not generate particulate that may entrain the product. [Pg.2242]
