In recent years, the middle distillates have been in growing demand as fuel oils and Diesel fuel. As mentioned under the discussion on Diesel-fuel additives, it has been possible to meet this demand only by the inclusion of distillates from catalytic cracking operations. These have higher volumetric heat contents and lower pour and cloud points, but their use has caused problems of stability and compatibility in storage, necessitating use of anti-screen-clogging agents (14, 41, 4 )-... [Pg.241]

In general, large particles are separated into size fractions by means of screens, and small particles, which would clog the fine apertures of the screen or for which it would be impracticable to make the openings sufficiently fine, are separated in a fluid. The use of cracked stocks in No. 2 has meant additional problems for the refiner. Besides having to refine for odor and color, he is also faced with a stability problem. While catalytic cracking as a rule produces a more stable oil than does thermal cracking, there are still compounds present which on aging will form insoluble sludge.
