Salicylates Corticosteroids

An investigation of the dc and ac polarographic responses of 24 pharmaceuticals in an aprotic solvent system has been described [82]. Barbiturates, salicylates, corticosteroids, and alkaloids were examined in acetonitrile-tetra-butylammonium perchlorate. The majority of the compounds yielded one-electron reversible waves in this solvent they were suitable for analytical pur-... [Pg.788]

Vaccinations containing live organisms are not administered within 3 months of immune globulin administration because antibodies in the globulin preparation may interfere with the immune response to the vaccination. Corticosteroids, antineoplastic dru, and radiation therapy depress the immune system to such a degree that insufficient numbers of antibodies are produced to prevent the disease. When the salicylates are administered with the varicella vaccination, there is an increased risk of Reye s syndrome developing. [Pg.580]

Interference with corticosteroid function and the stress response has been shown for a variety of chemicals, including the pharmaceutical salicylate (Gravel and Vijayan 2006) and the PAH, phenanthrene (Monteiro et al. 2000a, 2000b). Other classes of chemicals shown to have significant effects on cortisol levels include PCBs and PAHs (Hontela et al. 1992,1997). The precise mechanisms for these effects are poorly understood, but for PCBs, are believed to be via their actions through the Ah receptor (Aluru and Vijayan 2006). [Pg.268]

Keratolytic agents such as salicylic acid are often added to bath oil or shampoos (typically 3% to 4%) for scalp psoriasis.10 Salicylic acid can also be added to topical corticosteroid preparations to enhance steroid penetration (salicylic acid breaks down keratin). [Pg.954]

Scalp involvement can be treated with twice-daily topical corticosteroids in conjunction with a shampoo containing selenium sulfide, coal tar, or salicylic acid to help soften and remove scales. [Pg.212]

Drugs that may affect repaglinide include CYP 450 inhibitors (eg, clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole, miconazole), CYP 450 inducers (eg, barbiturates, carbamazepine, rifampin), beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, chloramphenicol, corticosteroids, coumarins, estrogens, gemfibrozil, isoniazid, itraconazole, levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol, MAOIs, nicotinic acid, NSAIDs, oral contraceptives, phenothiazines, phenytoin, probenecid, salicylates, simvastatin, sulfonamides, sympathomimetics, thiazides and other diuretics, and thyroid products. [Pg.281]

Drugs that may affect nateglinide include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs), salicylates, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, rifamycins, MAOIs, and nonselective beta-adrenergic blocking agents, thiazides, corticosteroids, thyroid products, and sympathomimetics. [Pg.284]

Corticosteroids and salicylates may be used with this compound generally they can be decreased gradually or eliminated after hydroxychloroquine has been used for several weeks. [Pg.2025]

The present primary mode of therapy for these diseases involves the use 5-amino-salicylate (5-ASA) products. Often patients require additional medications, including corticosteroids, to help induce remission and various immune modulators, such as azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine or methotrexate, to maintain remission. In Crohn s disease certain antibiotics, such as metronidazole and ciprofloxacin, and infliximab Remi-cade), an anti-tumor necrosis factor-a(TNFa) antibody, also have been used. The pharmacology of antibiotics, immunosuppressive drugs, and corticosteroids is discussed in Chapters 43,57, and 60, respectively. [Pg.480]
