Safety monitoring procedures, active systems

Finally, major FIPV chemical-related activities in Europe to utilize, or to monitor and learn from, include the development of the European Information System on Risks from chemicals released from consumer products/articles (EIS-ChemRisks). EIS-ChemRisks has been designed to be a European-wide expert and stakeholders network of networks to systematically exchange and assess information on risks from chemicals released from consumer products/articles. The overall objective is to develop tools and reference data to enable harmonized exposure assessment procedures in the European Union. These tools and reference data will support the development of a structured stakeholder dialog in the framework of the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD, 2001/ 95/EC) and progressively in the framework of the European Commission s REACH program as it is established and implemented. [Pg.1338]

Adequate operational procedures may also contribute to reducing the probability of generating a PIE. Examples include the prevention of excessive thermal stresses in metal pressure vessels and the monitoring of vessel material for radiation embrittlement the limitation of plant transients by the use of pressure relief valves and safety features activated by the protection system prohibitions or restrictions during the conduct of dangerous operations the use of seismic instruments to provide data for the assessment of the condition of the plant for continued operation following an earthquake and the control of... [Pg.28]

The leadership team may or may not be sensitive to these influences and allow the creation of conditions that effect the safety of employees, the environment, and the overall organization. Implementing a safety system helps to provide a structure that monitors a full range of activities from risk assessment, hazard identification, and correction tracking to develop consistent rules, procedures, and safe work practices. [Pg.154]

SRTB-89-281 (Reference 14) provides adequate procedural guidance for conducting material condition waikdowns of selected systems. The selected systems specified in SRTB-89-281 are (1) Critical Monitoring System, (2) Supplementary Safety System, (3) Airborne Activity Confinement System, (4) Cooling Water System, and (5) Process Water System. [Pg.124]
