Safety committees management

The Environment, Health and Safety Committee shall have the authority and the responsibility to assess any and all aspects of the company s decisions that pertain to operating policies and practices at its facilities to determine their impact on worker safely and health and on the environment in and around its facilities and to make recommendations to the board of directors and the management of the company. [Pg.271]

Safety committees provide a formal channel through which management and the employees can communicate with regard to process safety issues and overall company culture. There are many references to the involvement of employee representatives in the OSHA standard. These would usually be on the safety committee. If the facility is nonunion, it is essential that the employees representative is selected by the employees, not appointed by management. But it is important to ensure that the committee is not isolated the effective implementation of this element requires that everyone participate in the process safety program. [Pg.176]

In response to the changing industrial scene, process employees have assumed a multifaceted role. Today s employees no longer confine themselves to just production work they are active in safety committees, health issues, public relations, and environmental concerns.
