Running bush

The arbor support is now positioned on the overarm so that it is central on the running bush and is then clamped in position. The arbor nut can now be tightened with the appropriate spanner. Never tighten the arbor nut without the arbor support in position, as the arbor can be bent.

The running clearances specified in 2.6.4.2 do not apply to the clearances of steady bearings or interstage bushings. The clearances used shall be stated in the proposal and approved by the purchaser. 

For vertically suspended pumps with shafts exposed to liquid and running in bushings, the shaft shall be 12 percent chrome, except for Classes S-9, A7, A-8, and D- 1. Cantilever (Type VS5) pumps may utihze AlSl 4140 where the service liquid will allow. 

Standard flange-mounted motors are used as the drive. The shaft feedthroughs are sealed by two oil sealed radial shaft seals running on a wear resistant bushing in order to protect the drive shaft. Flange motors of any protection class, voltage or frequency may be used. 

As an example in estimating wear rate in a nylon bushing consider a 10-mm diameter shaft running 900 rpm (0.47 m/s) under 0.5 x 106 N/m2 (70 psi) load. The Pp of 0.235 x 106 N/m2-m/s(6510 psi-fpm) and if = 0.24 x 10-15 m2/N for filled nylon in Table 9 gives a wear rate of 0.20 mm/1000 h. Since Pp test results vary widely, these wear estimates are only guides. For maximum utility, the test materials, finishes, temperature, load, speed, and lubrication should duplicate as nearly as possible those in the planned application.

Buckets for continuous elevators are V-shaped in cross-section and carry their maximum load when the inclination of the elevator is such that the front and rear of the buckets are inclined equally to the vertical. Single-chain and belt elevators usually are operated at about double the speed of continuous bucket elevators so their inclination does not have to be so pronounced. Double-chain elevators when run in a vertical plane have their buckets suspended between the chains, to permit the required snubbing, but inchned elevators of the standard type, when inclined, have their buckets attached to the chains on their backs. Chains should be of the short-pitch variety to avoid pulsations as they pass about the end sprockets and when handhng abrasive material likely to raise dust they should be bushed. Supporting sprockets and rollers are used on inclined elevators to prevent the loaded side sinking and interfering with the return run of the elevator.
