Routine testing

The goal is to test the quality of a coating, such as an anodising coating, or the susceptibility to a given form of corrosion. Laboratories rely on specific methods, most of them standardised, such as 

The corrosive media are usually only somewhat related to service conditions. This does not matter what is required here is that the testing method be selective with respect to flawed manufacturing or a specific form of corrosion. It is, however, impossible to deduce the lifetime of the product from these tests. This debate has been going on for a long time, and there is no answer to this question [3].

Many comparative studies have been carried out in order to correlate laboratory testing based on specific media with testing in natural atmospheres in outdoor testing stations [4-7]. This can validate accelerated testing methods and ensure that stress corrosion testing methods are sufficiently severe in order to be both selective and discriminating.

Before applying this method to routine testing of critical parts like turbine disks, it has to be further developed and its limitations have to be checked carefully. 

The adhesives are routinely tested for specific performance and compliance to many user specifications with different requirements. Government purchases are covered in the Mil Standard A-46050C (12). 

Sevin. 1-Naphthalenol methylcarbanate [63-25-2] (Sevin) (44) was developed as an insecticide. However, the conception of the molecule, in the mid-1950s, was as a possible herbicide. The compound ultimately was useless as a herbicide, but in routine testing it was discovered to be an excellent insecticide. Sevin was active in the oat mesocotyl assay and demonstrated weak auxin-like activity. During the development of Sevin, it caused massive apple drop in the western United States in an orchard being treated for insects. It is used (ca 1993) as an abscising agent to thin apples. 

The assessor should also find out whether an effective testing program is in place to help ensure the serviceability of process measurement equipment. The successful toller should have an established calibration program to address the accuracy of critical measurement equipment. Safety critical process parameters should be monitored and critical process equipment should automatically interlock when monitoring instrumentation detects safety critical deviations. Interlocks should either facilitate a remedy to the critical deviation or bring the process to the zero energy state. These instruments and interlocking devices should be routinely tested to ensure operational reliability. 

After the above checks the motor can be subjected to type and routine tests. For testing instruments, the following class and grades aie recommended.

This check may be carried out both at the works, after final assembly, and at the site after the installation before conducting routine tests or energizing the assembly. The ehecks can be carried out at a lower voltage to detect any shorting links or spanners left inadvertently on live terminals, weak insulation or insufficient clearance or creepage distances between the phases or phase to ground conduetors. In the ease of a defect the same must be rectified immediately.
