Both clinical and basic studies of oxidative stress are needed to further clarify their role in aging and age-related diseases. Here, it is important to more clearly define the dietary needs of various antioxidants to slow aging and lower disease incidence. Previous research has focused on slowing the rates of adverse reactions future efforts should probably be directed toward decreasing free radical initiation rates.

The mixture of compounds which results in this case contains 2,6,2, 6 -tetra-tert-butyl-4,4 -dioxycyclohexadiene-l-one XCVIII and compounds formed by its cleavage, among them 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-4-alkyl-2,5-cyclohexadiene-l-one of the type CX, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-l,4-benzoquinone XXII, and 3,5,3, 5 -tetra-tert-butyl-4,4 -diphenoquinone XX. 

Age is also an important factor to consider, and it is discussed elsewhere in (his book. It is worth mentioning briefly here because some of the species-specific factors that contribute to interspecies variability also play a role in age-dependent effects of anti-ChEs. It has been suggested that perturbed calcium regulation plays a role in age-related neurodegenerative diseases. According to this hypothesis, based on very little and controversial evidence, disrupted calcium homeostasis is involved in both normal and pathological ageing.
