Tribromobenzoic acid has been prepared by the deamination of 2,4,6-tribromo-3-aminobenzoic acid (reagents not specified), by hydrolysis of 2,4,6-tribromobenzonitrile, " and by oxidation of the tribromotoluene, the benzyl chloride, the aldehyde,and the glyoxylic acid.i The present method is a modification of that of Bunnett, Robison, and Pennington.i ...

In general, however, reduction by ethanol is recommended only in cases where one has a reliable analytical method for distinguishing between products resulting from hydrogen- or ethoxy-substitution. For all other cases we recommend Kornblum s dediazoniation in an aqueous solution of hypophosphorous acid, in some cases in the presence of a catalyst, e.g., 0.05-0.10 mol% CuS04. The procedure is notable for its simplicity of operation. In Organic Syntheses the diazotization and hydro-de-diazoniation of 3,3 -dimethyl- and 3,3 -dimethoxybenzidine are described by Kornblum (1955) and the formation of 2,4,6-tribromobenzoic acid by Robison and Robison (1963).

Food Chain Bioaccumulation. Information about americium the levels of americium in aquatic and terrestrial organisms and its bioaccumulation in these organisms is available (Fresquez et al. 1999 DOE 1996 Suchanek et al. 1996). Data are also available on the uptake of americium in plants (Bennett 1979 Cataldo et al. 1980 EPA 1979 Romney et al. 1981 Schreckhise and Cline 1980 Schulz et al. 1976 Zach 1985) and levels in food (Bennett 1979 Cunningham et al. 1989, 1994 Robison et al. 1997a, 1997b). These data indicate that americium does not biomagnify in the food chain (Bennett 1979 Bulman 1978). 

Information is available on the levels of241 Am in soil and sediment in areas affected only by global fallout, at DOE installations and other nuclear facilities, as well as sites of nuclear explosions and accidents (Alberts et al. 1989 Bennett 1979 Cooper et al. 1994 DOE 1980 Pattenden and McKay 1994 Robison et al. 1997a, 1997b Sanchez et al. 1996). 241Am levels in soil around nuclear power plants in the United States were indistinguishable from fallout background (EPRI 1981).
