In addition to obtaining adequate vvind resources, site selection sites for wind turbines must also consider avian populations. Several studies have been performed to determine the impact that turbines have on bird populations, with inconclusive results (Sinclair and Morrison, 1997). However, siting turbines to avoid nesting and migration patterns appears to reduce the impact that turbines have on bird mortality. 

Web-based data collection and management systems provide a mechanism for remote data entry, where entered data are added to a centralized database once the submit button is pressed. They can be designed to automate the various aspects of clinical trials such as eligibility evaluation, data collection, and tracking specimens. They also serve as a resource site for participating sites to access trial-specific information, facilitate communication, track data queries and their resolutions, and allow administrative management of trials [28, 29]. For these reasons, they play an important role in facilitating the conduct of international clinical trials.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Research Resources site lists scientific information, tools, reagents, and services for cancer researchers on its website at http //resresources.nci.nih.gov/. 

To Study interactions between proteins and drugs, an available tool is the Drug Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME) Associated Protein Database (see Table 1.5). The database contains information about relevant proteins, functions, similarities, substrates and hgands, tissue distributions, and other features of targets. Eor the understanding of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) features, some available resources are listed in Table 1.5. For example, the Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Resources site provides links to relevant software, courses, textbooks, and journals (see Note 5). For quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR), the QSAR Datasets site collects data sets that are available in a structural format (see Table 1.5). 

Although the resource sites mentioned earlier provide a convenient way to view a wide variety of information, it will eventually be necessary for the researcher to look for information or views elsewhere. The two main approaches to Web research are the portal and the search engine. 

Chapter 8 of this book provides a list of organizations that are involved with various aspects of drug enforcement, treatment, and policy, but new organizations will emerge now and then. Many of tire resource sites listed earlier will have links to organizations, as will Yahoo and the other general Web portals.

EMP at http //wit.mcs.anl.gov/EMP/ is the resource site for summarized enzyme data that have been published in the literature. The site opens with the Simple query form (Figure 7.6). Enter the enzyme name into the name query box of Find an enzyme, select Common name, then enter the common organism name for In an organism or taxon, and enter tissue name in response to Extracted from. Clicking Submit Query returns an itemized summary of published enzyme data (data from one article may appear in more than one entries for different substrates) including concise assay and purification procedures, kinetic equations and kinetic parameters. 

The active-site-directed inhibition of enzymes has been an important research topic in pharmaceutical drug design (Sandler, 1980). An early development of anti-cancer agents involved inhibitions of dihydrofolate reductase and thymidylate synthetase. Suitable testing methods in combination with synthetic nucleotide/ peptide/saccharide libraries enable investigations to be made on diverse biochemical issues in a more efficient manner. OSDB (http //www.orgsyn.org/) that compiles organic reactions and experimental procedures is a useful organic synthetic resource site. 

Thus, the EC numbers provide unique identifiers for enzyme functions, and give us useful keyword entries in database searches (http //www.chem.qmw.ac.uk/iubmb/ enzyme/). Enzyme nomenclature/common names and properties are also available at ENZYME (http //www.expasy.org/enzyme) and BRENDA (http //www.brenda.uni-koeln. de). IntEhz (http //www.ebi.ac.uk/intenzy) is the integrated enzyme database and enzyme nomenclature. Table 11.1 lists some enzyme resource sites providing general information.
