Administration by inhalation has been explored by Brilli [124], mentioned previously for his work with NONOates. Here he uses one of these same NONOates, DMAEP/NO (see Fig. 8.11), in aerosol form. When administered in an aerosolized state, DMAEP/NO again shows selective pulmonary vasodilation in a porcine model. This is achieved without affecting the systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI) or the cardiac index (Cl). Work from the same year by Adrie et al. [125] compared aerosolized DEA/NO with aerosolized SNP and inhaled NO, in sheep. As the NONOate has a short half-life (2.1 min), it was predicted that this would be a selective pulmonary vasodilator. However, compared with inhaled NO this was not observed, though SNP... [Pg.221]

Devotees of the use of standard rubbers then finally express the result as an abrasion resistance index defined by ... [Pg.233]

Four standard rubbers are specified, two of which are the same as those given in ISO 4649. The other two are a high abrasion resistant SBR compound and a low abrasion resistant material which may be preferred for comparison with high and low abrasion resistant test materials respectively. For all three methods, the calculation of abrasion resistance index is specified. [Pg.237]

Nasta et al. also tried to investigate the relationship between cholesterol and mood states in the initial puerperal period. Their results showed that reduced plasma cholesterol concentration was associated with major feelings of fatigue and depressed mood [79]. In addition, West et al. compared the effects of transdermal versus oral estrogens on the vascular resistance index, mean arterial pressure, serum lipid concentrations, norepinephrine, and left ventricular structure in 10 postmenopausal women. The results showed that oral and transdermal estrogen significantly decreased the vascular resistance index, mean arterial pressure, norepinephrine, and total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to a similar extent [80],... [Pg.89]

This paper reports an investigation of the effects of porous solid structures on their electrical behaviour at different frequencies (from 100 Hz to 100 kHz). For that, we study different parameters such as formation resistivity factor, cementation factor, chargeability, resistivity index and saturation exponent. Different porous solid structures are quantified from the petrographic image analysis and Hg-injection technique. Then, by using different models we obtain the permeability prediction from the electrical behaviour and structure parameters. [Pg.483]

A rise in the resistance index of the kidneys and a reduction in renal perfusion as shown by Doppler duplex sonography make possible an early diagnosis before renal dysfunction is clinically evident. (47) Coloured sonography has proved of great value in determining renal haemodynamics (which is in posture position deteriorates). [Pg.326]

Acute reduction in renal perfusion is considered important in the pathophysiology of contrast agent-induced nephrotoxicity. Color-coded duplex sonography has been used in assessing intrarenal vascular resistance in 10 patients (mean age 51 years) after intravenous injection of 100 ml of the low-osmolar contrast medium iopamidol (iodine 300 mg/ml) (182). The resistive index was measured at 1-minute intervals over 10 minutes after injection in each patient. There was a statistically significant rise in resistive index at 2, 3, 4, and 5 minutes after injection, mean values 0.74, 0.75, 0.72, and 0.75... [Pg.1870]

A 36-year-old man with a pheochromocytoma underwent adrenalectomy. After induction of anesthesia he was given intravenous labetalol 30 mg, and after intubation his blood pressure rose from 147/85 to 247/ 150 mmHg, his systemic vascular resistance index rose from 1958 to 3458 dyn sec m cm, and his cardiac index fell to 3.6 1 min m. During tumor resection, he was given sodium nitroprusside to reduce his blood pressure. After tumor resection, his blood pressure fell to 77/52 mmHg and his systemic vascular resistance index to 1635 dyn sec m cm. His blood pressure was effectively controlled with dobutamine. [Pg.1985]

On the premise that phosphodiesterase inhibitors also inhibit the production of cytokines, milrinone has been used in the treatment of nine patients with the systemic inflammatory response sjmdrome and compared with seven patients with congestive heart failure (4). In both groups mikinone significantly altered cardiac index, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, and left ventricular stroke work index. In the patients with cardiac failure it also reduced systemic vascular resistance index, and the dose of adrenaline had to be increased substantially during milrinone infusion to counteract vasodilatation. [Pg.2346]
