Resistance oxidative degradation

High-Stability Liquid Oils—Modification of oils by utilizing hydrogenation with fractionation permits the development of liquid oils with high-resistance oxidative degradation. Liquid oils with a 350-h AOM stability and others with exception frying stabilities are available commercially. [Pg.434]

It was observed that 2-methyl benzene thiol suppresses the hydrogen adsorption on platinum and iron. 1,2-Ethanedithiol and 2,2 -(ethylenedioxy)diethanethiol adsorb strongly on platinum electrodes, suppress the adsorption of hydrogen from water, and also resist oxidative degradation. However, iron electrodes only show a five to ten times increase in polarization resistance and five to ten times reduction in double-layer capacitance. Therefore, 1,2-eth-anedithiol and 2,2 -(ethylenedioxy)diethanethiol are considered as promising additives for improving the charge efficiency of the iron electrode (106). [Pg.106]

Ethylene—Propylene (Diene) Rubber. The age-resistant elastomers are based on polymer chains having a very low unsaturation, sufficient for sulfur vulcanization but low enough to reduce oxidative degradation. EPDM can be depicted by the following chain stmcture ... [Pg.469]

The polymers also have excellent resistance to oxidative degradation, most chemicals other than strong bases and high-energy radiation. Exposure for 1500 hours to a radiation of about 10 rads at 175°C led to embrittlement but the sample retained form stability. [Pg.518]

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers have now been available for many years (and were described in the first edition of this book). The adipate polyester-based materials have outstanding abrasion and tear resistance as well as very good resistance to oils and oxidative degradation. The polyether-based materials are more noted for their resistance to hydrolysis and fungal attack. Rather specialised polymers based on polycaprolactone (Section 25.11) may be considered as premium grade materials with good all round properties. [Pg.879]

Trifluoroacetic acid is a useful medium for a number of oxidation reactions It IS highly resistant to strong oxidants, even to permanganates and chromates For instance, various alkanes, cycloalkanes, and arenes can be oxidized degradatively by potassium permanganate in trifluoroacetic acid under mild conditions [28]... [Pg.946]

The double bond present in the diene part of the elastomer is generally more susceptible to thermal and oxidative degradation. The selective hydrogenation of olefmic unsaturation in NBR imparts significant improvements in resistance to degradation and other properties, such as permeability, resistance to ozone and chemicals, and property retention at high temperature. [Pg.555]

Polyisobutylene and IIR have chemical resistance expected of saturated hydrocarbons. Oxidative degradation is slow and the material may be further protected by antioxidants, for example, hindered phenols. [Pg.433]

Combustion in a thermal oxidizer is the only practical way to deal with many waste streams. This is particularly true of solid and concentrated waste and toxic wastes such as those containing halogenated hydrocarbons, pesticides, herbicides, and so on. Many of the toxic substances encountered resist biological degradation and persist in the natural environment for a long period. Unless they are in dilute aqueous solution, the most effective treatment is usually thermal oxidation. [Pg.644]

Terpene resins are most commonly used in adhesive production, where they confer very strong tackifying properties. The terpene resins improve the resistance of adhesives to oxidative degradation. These resins are normally produced from p-pinene and are light yellow in colour. Polymers of dipentene and limonene are also available as resins. [Pg.160]

Essentially concurrently, the C2-symmetric ketone catalysts 8-10 were reported . In regard to the enantioselectivity, the TADDOL (o ,Q ,Q , Q -tetraaryl-l,3- oxolane-4,5-dimethanol)-derived ketone 10 performs better than the binaphthalene-based ketone 6, but not as well as the fructose-modified ketone 7, whereas 10 is more resistant than 7 in regard to oxidative degradation. ... [Pg.1146]

The gasoline specification ASTM D-4814 requires gasoline which is marketed and sold to possess a minimum level of resistance to oxidative degradation. This resistance is determined by test method ASTM D-525 and is outlined below ... [Pg.175]
