Thermosets resins

Resol resins thermoset on heating and are used for adhesives. Novolacs require a further source of formaldehyde in the form of hexamethylenetetramine to produce molding powders. Phenolic moldings are resistant to heat, chemicals, and moisture with good electrical and heat insulation qualities. Complex phenols from, e.g., cashew-nut shell liquid, are used in making brake... [Pg.278]

Thermoset Plastics Alkyd, amino resin, thermosetting acrylic resin, casein, epoxy, phenolic, polyester, polyamide, silicone. [Pg.602]

Curing of Polyimlde Resin. Thermoset processing involves a large number of simultaneous and interacting phenomena, notably transient and coupled heat and mass transfer. This makes an empirical approach to process optimization difficult. For instance, it is often difficult to ascertain the time at which pressure should be applied to consolidate the laminate. If the pressure is applied too early, the low resin viscosity will lead to excessive bleed and flash. But if the pressure is applied too late, the diluent vapor pressure will be too high or the resin molecular mobility too low to prevent void formation. This example will outline the utility of our finite element code in providing an analytical model for these cure processes. [Pg.276]

Chapter 22 didn t give you a very satisfying definition of resins. But its useful here to talk about two classes of polymers called resins thermosets and engineering thermoplastics. [Pg.359]

The aldehyde content of Novolac resins is insufficient to render the resin thermosetting, hence, they are true thermoplastics provided that a curing agent is not added. Novolacs may be stored indefinitely in the pulverized state at moderate temperatures even mixed with curing agent. [Pg.1274]

At the present time aminoplasts comprise moulding compounds based on amine resins (thermosetting condensation products of formaldehyde with carbamide or melamine or a combination thereof) and organic or mineral fillers or a combination thereof doped with dyestuff and modifying substances (plasticizers, stabilizers, crosslinking agents, and the like). [Pg.139]

Amine-resin thermosetting materials (plastics) are manufactured in all industrially developed countries. Aminoplasts are still one of the most common types of polymeric materials although production of novel plastics is rapidly growing. [Pg.139]

The complexity of the whey-based resin thermosetting process can be illustrated by considering several isothermal investigations. Samples of the resin... [Pg.399]

However, when a fresh sample of the resin was heated isothermally at 185 °C, there was an exothermic process evident that peaked within the first minute and reached completion within approximately 4 to 5 min. Thus, it is evident that the cure mechanism may change with change in reaction conditions, revealing the complexity of the whey-based resin thermosetting process. [Pg.400]

Cross-linked epoxy resin (thermoset of bisphenol A diglycidyl ether). [Pg.395]

Modern Plastics Encyclopedia lists the types of adhesive system which may be used to bond together similar and dissimilar plastics. These are usually coded under elastomeric, thermoplastic resins, thermosetting resins and miscellaneous systems. [Pg.335]

A closely related method to the in situ polymerisation processing of composites is based on epoxy resins thermosets. In this approach, CNTs can be dispersed in a liquid epoxy precursor and then the mixtures can be cured by the addition of hardener, such as triethylene tetramine (TETA), and the application of temperature or pressure. In most cases, the epoxy monomer exists in liquid state, facilitating nanotube dispersion. Curing is then carried out to... [Pg.89]
