Appendix A provides a brief description of several existing hardware and software tools designed for CA research. Appendix B contains a useful list of CA and more general c omplcxity-related information sources availabk on the World Wide Web (WWW), subject-sorted into a total of 91 WWW Universal Resource Loc a-tor (URL) links in 16 categories. The book is indexed and includes an extensive bibliography. 

The publishers of SCI also produce another publication, called Index to Scientific Reviews, that appears semiannually. This publication, which began in 1974, is very similar to SCI, but confines itself to listing citations to review articles. The citations come from 2500 journals in the same general areas as are covered by SCI. The review articles cited appeared in about 215 review journals and books, as well as in those journals that publish occasional review articles. Like SCI, the Index to Scientific Reviews contains citation, source, corporate, and Permuterm indexes. It also contains a Research Front Specialty Index , which classifies reviews by subject. 

Research done in an academic setting generally results in a formal publication that appears in the primary literature. The research results contained in dissertations may or may not be published separately. Dissertations are catalogued and placed on the shelves of the student s university. Many universities now have electronic catalogues that allow searching from remote sites. Dissertations are also indexed by commercial organizations (see below).

Bradbury et al. (2004), however, recently reanalyzed the relation between tamoxifen and cataracts and described it as a null association, They used a nested, matched, case-control study design and data collected in the General Practice Research Database. They identified all women 30-79 years old who were diagnosed with breast cancer and treated with tamoxifen within 6 months, or with bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, or nonmelanoma skin cancer between January 1991 and December i999. From this population they identified all newly diagnosed cases of cataract and matched four female controls to each case on age, index date, and study entry data. They assessed the risk of cataracts for current, past, and sometime users of tamoxifen... 

Bibliographic resources is a general term for catalogs, indexes, bibliographies, and other guides that identify the books, periodical articles, and other printed resources that deal with a particular subject. They are essential tools for the researcher.

The boiling point, refractive index, and density of the olefin derivative of any paraffin were shown, by use of Table III, to stand in the onier of their olefin type. Table X contains the engine data of the olefin derivatives of 2-methylpentane and 3-methylpentane, recorded in the order of their olefin type. No consistent relations between octane numbers or critical compression ratios are obvious—but the blending octane numbers of these branched olefins, as measured by both the research and Motor methods, do generally stand in the order of their type. Two olefins of type III form exceptions, the exceptions being in one case too high and in the other case too low.
