Some parts of speech are more difficult than others. The four most challenging ones as they pertain to your essay are pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. They will be clarified here, along with usage explanations and examples. Bibliographic resources is a general term for catalogs, indexes, bibliographies, and other guides that identify the books, periodical articles, and other printed resources that deal with a particular subject. They are essential tools for the researcher.

Many web sites on the Internet provide chemical and physical data for tens of thousands of compounds. Print resources, such as The CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, provide these data as well.

As noted earlier, consulting with mentors and other persons who have experience with particular experiments and instruments is often the best way to learn about safety protocols and details. We list here a few printed resources that also contain useful information. Searching for information online may or may not produce reliable information and it is important to carefully assess the quality of the information.

Many directories are now available on the Internet and, as such, are more up to date than printed resources. Institutions or organizations can often be found via the Internet however, some societies limit access to their membership directories to members only. The educational and equipment directories listed here may facilitate searching for addresses or contact information. 

To return to the old days of print resources or mediated searching would be ludicrous as well as impossible. The information genie is out of the bottle and I know of no one, especially librarians. 

A truly vast and ever-growing body of organic chemical information is recorded in the chemical literature and in online databases. In a research library practically all of it can be searched quickly through these databases and with the use of Chemical Abstracts, Beilsteins Handbook of Organic Chemistry, and the review literature. Because print resources are still available, those will be discussed briefly, but online sources will be the focus of this chapter.
