The Chemical Abstracts System (CAS) produces a set of various databases ranging from bibliographic to chemical structure and reaction databases. All the databases originate from the printed media of Chemical Abstracts, which was first published in 1907 and is divided into different topics. Author index, general index, chemical structure index, formula index, and index guide arc entries to the corresponding database (Table 5-3). [Pg.242]

Amino acids, carbohydrates and steroids not found below are in Chapter 4 (see also CAS Registry Numbers Index and General Index). [Pg.505]

Almost all the entries in Chapters 4, 5 and 6 have CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) Registry Numbers to identify them, and these have been entered for each substance. Unlike chemical names which may have more than one synonymous name, there is only one CAS Registry Number for each substance (with only a few exceptions, e.g. where a substance may have another number before purification, or before determination of absolute configuration). To simplify the method for locating the purification of a substance, a CAS Registry Number Index with the respective page numbers has been included after the General Index at the end of the book. This will also provide the reader with a rapid way to see if the purification of a particular... [Pg.621]

It is an expl which is as powerful as TNT (99% by ballistic mortar), but more sensitive to impact, being comparable to Tetryl. Its 120° Vacuum Stability Test yields 8cc for a 5g sample in 8 hours, as compared with 6.5cc/5g sample in 15 hours for PETN and 3.8cc/5g sample in 48 hours for Tetryl Refs 1) Beil, not listed in General Index 2) L.F. There are two indices, an index of chemicals and a general index. In the chemical index, boldface page numbers refer to the sketehes of structural formulas or to reaction equations. [Pg.509]

If you need historical values for the cost of specific types of equipment, materials, fuels, and so on, rather than a general index, consult the references cited at the beginning of the chapter. To determine capital costs (Cx) in the year X in the future, given a known cost Cy in year Y, you simply multiply Cy by the ratio of the index (Ix/Iy) ... [Pg.612]

On the basis of graph theory and information theory, Bertz [30] has proposed, in the past few years, the first general index of molecular complexity (T ), so introducing a quantitative concept of "molecular complexity" which may be applied to synthetic analysis. [Pg.24]

In the "general index of complexity" (C ) proposed by Bertz, besides the number of connections, symmetry is also taken into account. Such an index, that incorporates concepts from the "graph theory" and the "theory of information" [7] is defined as ... [Pg.33]

With such a "general index of complexity" it is possible to calculate the complexity of any molecule and, therefore, the complexity of all the intermediates of a synthetic sequence, and, in principle, it is also possible to calculate the change of complexity, ACj, upon going from the starting materials to the target. [Pg.33]
