Remote concept

A new design of an old concept of thermal surface inspection permits the photothermal camera to be considered as an interesting alternative to NDT methods like penetrant or magnetic testing, particularly when the testing has to be made in a remote or automatic way. [Pg.398]

The facility costs are based on the concept of a mobile remote repair facility. The advantages of this concept are low-cost, minimal shielding requirements, and flexible use of the overall repair facility. The main components for a remote repair are the electron accelerator, the power supply, and the robotic control system including the remote video system. Table 14 shows the estimated costs for these main components. [Pg.1034]

The use of canopy hoods or remote capture of fume is usually considered only after the rejection of source or local hood capture concepts. The common reasons for rejecting source or local hood capture are usually operating interference problems or layout constraints. In almost all cases, a canopy hood system represents an expensive fume collection approach from both capital and opetating cost considerations. Remote capture depends on buoyant ait curtents to carry the contaminated gas to a canopy hood. The rising fume on its way to the hood is often subjected to cross-drafts within the ptocess buildings or deflected away from the hood by objects such as cranes. For many of these canopy systems, the capture efficiency of fume may be as low as 30-50%. [Pg.1279]

On the basic of relaxation theory the concept of TROSY is described. We consider a system of two scalar coupled spins A, I and S, with a scalar coupling constant JIS, which is located in a protein molecule. Usually, I represents H and S represents 15N in a 15N-1H moiety. Transverse relaxation of this spin system is dominated by the DD coupling between I and S and by CSA of each individual spin. An additional relaxation mechanism is the DD coupling with a small number of remote protons, / <. The relaxation rates of the individual multiplet components in a single quantum spectrum may then be widely different (Fig. 10.3) [2, 9]. They can be described using the single-transition basis opera-... [Pg.237]

In a completely different interpretation Zefirov (242) proposed a new concept of frontier-orbital mixing (243) to explain how conformational and electronic effects in monosubstituted cyclohexanes are transmitted to remote 8-carbon atoms (Scheme 36). The orbitals at C(l) and C(4) in 112 are considered to be equatorial (242). A perturbation at C(l) (H is replaced by X) produces an electron-density shift from H(4) toward C(4) (242), which is associated with an upheld shift of the latter s signal. Although this approach appears to be quite crude and does not account for axial substituents, it deserves fiirther attention. [Pg.262]

Editor You have, for quite some time, worked in the laboratory and the field developing the MEDDS (Mechem1 Explosive and Drug Detection System) that has led to the REST (remote explosive sensing techniques) concept. What is the current state of development of these ... [Pg.178]

The concept of OH reactivity has been applied to give a first-cut assessment of the contribution of various individual organics and sources to photochemical oxidant formation in a number of situations. For example, Chameides et al. (1992) scaled the contribution of various VOC concentrations in a variety of atmospheres from remote to polluted urban areas using OH reactivity. They concluded that while NOx concentrations decreased from polluted urban areas to rural to remote regions, the total VOC reactivity assessed in this manner was comparable at all continental areas from remote to polluted. [Pg.909]

The preceding sections have explored classical pharmacological concepts based on the dose-response relationships in tissue or organ preparations. The enormous complexity of living systems and the remoteness of cause from effect (i.e., drug administration from pharmacological action) introduce many complications and artefacts into the study of such relationships. [Pg.84]

Unpredictable Peak Exposures. When periods of peak exposure cannot be predicted, the concept of an absolute ceiling limit becomes naive because for any lognormal distribution of sample values (Og > 1) there is always a probability (however remote) that the limit will be exceeded. It is suggested, therefore, that in these situations acute-exposure limits be interpreted as air concentrations which should be exceeded only rarely, perhaps 5% of the time. This does not imply that it would be acceptable to... [Pg.442]

The automation concept implemented at Conroe is called computer production control (CPC).2 CPC systems are driven by a general purpose process-control computer (48-K core memory) centrally located and programmed to monitor production and equipment operations and perform oil and gas accounting. As shown in Fig. 11, the computer is connected to a supervisory control system with a computer interface unit (CIU) to provide remote data acquisition and control function capability. [Pg.54]

Most DCS were, and still are, being sold to refineries and chemical plants where the distances involved and the environment do not require microwave communication. Responding to the market demand, few manufacturers were interested in developing the technique. Such systems that were available were, quite naturally, configured around the concept of closed loop control at the PCM level. Consequently, none of them could compete with the SCADA system in terms of numbers of data acquisition points. Alternatively, none of the SCADA system manufacturers could provide a sufficiently intelligent remote unit to execute closed loop control. [Pg.61]
