These are a series of low complexity assays that are used for (a) detection and quantitation of enzymatic activities (extracted from tissues or cell layers, or released in culture medium) (b) quantitation of level of enzyme activation (in some cases) (c) assessment of enzyme inhibition by new compounds and (d) measurement of tissue inhibitors in a given sample. They do not allow one to see whether, or not, the enzymatic activities are blocked by inhibitors.
