Real-time treatment evaluation

Service companies are equipped to provide on-site, real-time evaluation of acid treatments. However, because these techniques require accurate data, their usefulness is often limited. (These limitations have been discussed elsewhere. ) At the least, constant injection rates and an accurate pressuretime recorder are required. Despite its limitations, real-time evaluation is recommended in fields where multiple acid treatments are planned. It is most important to gather such data for initial treatments in a field. Future success may depend on it. Montgomery and colleagues have described techniques that can be used to apply real-time treatment evaluation to diagnostics and interpretation, enabling proper decision making and use of these methods. ... 

The new protocols presented here deal with the direct evaluation of antioxidant global capacity applied to skin and dermo-cosmetic creams. The analyses are performed directly in the medium without pre-treatment of the samples. This allows a simple and noninvasive measurement without introducing any possible interference. Moreover, cyclic voltammetry provides results in quasi-real time, allowing the direct monitoring of reaction kinetics. 

The primary study end-point was incidence of DVT and other thromboembolic events assessed clinically and by both locally and centrally assessed ultrasonography. The duplex-ultrasounds of the lower extremities were used to confirm or exclude the occurrence of DVT. Secondary end-points were safety, adverse events and immunogenicity. 

Real-time toxicity testing will enable a toxicity reduction evaluation to be made speedily when unacceptable levels of toxicity are detected by monitoring of industrial waste streams, and thus result in rapid corrective action. Hence decisions can be made before such toxic insults cause interference with processes in a downstream wastewater treatment plant, or cause environmental damage.

Conventional cancer chemotherapy presents relevant limitations associated with the non-selectivity of cytotoxic drugs, their narrow therapeutic indices and limited cellular penetration. Furthermore, during the anticancer treatment, the real-time evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy is of considerable importance in the aim to evaluate patient response.

The MAPDIR method can be combined with real-time evaluation of skin removal. In fact, the calculated skin remaining at any time during treatment is used to determine the maximum allowable differential pressure (dP). Therefore, MAPDIR is used to determine the maximum allowable acid injection rate at any given time, based on the relationship expressed in equation (6.2).
