Quality of derivatives

In the process of studying higher-order derivatives, four substances proved especially suitable for testing the quality of derivative devices. [Pg.106]

Reservoir rocks are either of clastic or carbonate composition. The former are composed of silicates, usually sandstone, the latter of biogenetically derived detritus, such as coral or shell fragments. There are some important differences between the two rock types which affect the quality of the reservoir and its interaction with fluids which flow through them. [Pg.13]

It is possible that much of the inspection in future years will be focused on areas identified from databases which collate corrosion and damage history in similar ships. The validity of any conclusions derived from assessment programmes or databases can only be accepted if the quality of the original product is known. This would suggest that the NDE inspection programmes applied by some yards will have to be expanded. [Pg.1051]

We will study the equations of motion that result from inserting all this in the full Schrodinger equation, Eq. (1). However, we would like to remind the reader that not the derivation of these equations of motion is the main topic here but the question of the quality of the underlying approximations. [Pg.382]

Low Temperature Carbonization. The Lurgi Sptlgas process was developed to carbonize brown coal at relatively low temperatures to produce tars and oils (Fig. 5). A shaft furnace internally heated by process-derived fuel gas (Spblgas) is used. The product can range from a friable coke breeze to hard lump coal depending on the quality of the briquettes used in the feed. The briquettes, made in normal extmsion presses, break down into smaller sizes during carbonization. [Pg.157]

The methods discussed in this section extend the original concept of deriving structures from experimental NMR data in two ways. First, during the structure calculation, part of the assignment problem is solved automatically. This allows specification of the NOE data in a fonn closer to the raw data, which makes the refinement similar to X-ray refinement. Second, the quality of the data is assessed. The methods have been recently reviewed in more detail [64,67]. [Pg.264]

It IS expected that production of coal-derived pitches, liquids, and chemicals will take on a more important role in the future. This is of some strategic concern to the United States, where the demand for domestic petroleum is greater than the supply. Moreover, the quality of imported petroleum cmdes is declinmg in that they contain increasing amounts of contarmnant metals and sulfur... [Pg.206]

In such cases the expression from fii st-order perturbation theory (10.18) yields a result identical to the first derivative of the energy with respect to A. For wave functions which are not completely optimized with respect to all parameters (Cl, MP or CC), the Hellmann-Feynman theorem does not hold, and a first-order property calculated as an expectation value will not be identical to that obtained as an energy derivative. Since the Hellmann-Feynman theorem holds for an exact wave function, the difference between the two values becomes smaller as the quality of an approximate wave function increases however, for practical applications the difference is not negligible. It has been argued that the derivative technique resembles the physical experiment more, and consequently formula (10.21) should be preferred over (10.18). [Pg.241]

A completely different type of property is for example spin-spin coupling constants, which contain interactions of electronic and nuclear spins. One of the operators is a delta function (Fermi-Contact, eq. (10.78)), which measures the quality of the wave function at a single point, the nuclear position. Since Gaussian functions have an incorrect behaviour at the nucleus (zero derivative compared with the cusp displayed by an exponential function), this requires addition of a number of very tight functions (large exponents) in order to predict coupling constants accurately. ... [Pg.262]

United States, methanol derived from natural gas as a fuel additive is a promising future market. Methanol has neither the environmental problems of methyl-t-butyl ether (MTBE), nor the evaporating qualities of ethanol. [Pg.834]

The quality of combustion can be measured with suitable instrumentation, on either a periodic or a continual basis. If continuous analysis is practiced then there may be feedback to continuously adjust the air/gas ratio and/or ratio and/or record the data derived. [Pg.276]
