Putrefaction

Id his most beautiful book, The Mystery of the Cathedrals , uniquely and completely dedicated to the Art of material Alchemy, Fulcanelli tells us the following in the preface, edited by him, and which he then assigned to M. B Canceliet  

This color is expressed in the first plate of the book. In the first drawing of the countryside of Lower Bgypt, in which a proud Sphinx appears in profile in the dying night, beside a retort, an athanor and the Mutus Liber opened to its first sentence, a sardonic crow, with wings spread, stands upon a human skull. 

This enigmatic collection evokes Memphis, capital of ancient Bgypt. founded in olden times by Menes. Now Memphis signifies blackness. It is probable that one can find this etymology in the term mephitic, wh ich describes a malodorous gas. Here we are in the hermetic stage of putrefaction. Tf we were to doubt it, the Hermetic crow is there to remind us. The skull also makes us bear in mind the words of Scripture In truth, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat 

And so, at the beginning of the Work, the necessary Pidrefeiction must appear, symbolized by die caput corvi . The seven passionate bodies must disappear, and with them the seven deadly sins, and with them the seven fundamental errors which stain the Soul. These 

Tt is completely useless to try and go further if this ineluctable phase is not achieved. Here again let us hear the voice of the old Masters

Prepare a solution of casein as follows. Weigh out 15 g. of casein into a dry 500 ml. conical flask and add about 150 ml. of water. Dissolve 1 5 g. of anhydrous sodium carbonate and i 5 g, of borax in about 20 ml. of hot water and add this solution to the casein. Warm until a solution is obtained, filter if necessary, and make up to a total volume of about 250 ml. with water. Add a few drops of toluene (to prevent putrefaction) and shake the solution. 

Leather (qv) has been employed for many uses since ancient time on account of the convertibiUty of an easily decomposed substance into one which resists putrefaction. Leather is stUl an important material with its unique stmcture it is so dense in texture that it resists wind and water while retaining breathabihty and flexibiUty, which makes the resulting goods comfortable. Early attempts to imitate leather included appHcation of oil, mbber, or soluble cotton onto paper or fabrics. However, very Htde progress had been made until the era of synthetic resins began in the twentieth century. 

The concept of heat processing of foods in hermetically sealed containers was introduced in 1810 (23). The role of microorganisms was unknown at the time, and only the so-called agents of putrefaction were eliminated.

Hydrogen sulphide This is produced by the putrefaction of organic sulphur compounds or by the action of sulphate-reducing bacteria in anaerobic conditions (e.g. in polluted river estuaries). It is fairly rapidly oxidised to SOj and concentrations are considerably lower than those of (Table 2.6). Nevertheless it is responsible for the tarnishing of copper and silver at normal atmospheric concentrations. 

Meat and fish are very liable to bacterial putrefaction in this connection an interesting innovation is the increasing use of easily cleaned aluminium fish boxes. It is also possible that copper should be avoided in contact with herrings, which have a high fat content. 

Di-D-fructose dianhydrides have been claimed to promote the growth of bifidobacteria in vitro.134 Bifidobacterium spp. are found in the large intestines of most vertebrates.135 The benefits attributed to the presence of a healthy population of bifidobacteria in the gut include inhibition of carcinogenesis,136 suppression of putrefactive substances,137 lowering of blood pressure and blood...

It was only around 1850 that the first amines were discovered by Wurtz [2], who considered them as alkylated (or arylated) derivatives of NH3. Nowadays, it is well known that the amine function is widespread among biologically important compounds, but mostly it is present in polyfunctional molecules such as amino acids, alkaloids, etc. Simple amines are very rare in nature, with the exception of tri-ethylamine and the trimethylammonium ion which come from the putrefaction of proteins. 

Bile The yellowish-brown or green fluid secreted by the liver and discharged into the duodenum where it aids in the emulsification of fats, increases peristalsis, and retards putrefaction.

In China, the plant is used to counteract skin putrefaction, heal boils, treat catarrh, dispel humors, and stop dysentry. In Korea, the plant is used to treat anuria and expel intestinal worms. In Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, the plant is used to treat colic, cholera, and dysentery. 

It was obvious from Pasteur s studies that each special kind of fermentation or disease of beer or wine was the result of the growth and activity in it of a special, distinct form of yeast or other microorganism, depending on the type of fermentation or disease under investigation. This furthered an idea, already old, of the specificity of biological action, and supported the view that animal and human diseases also, like different sorts of putrefaction and fermentation, were each caused by a single, specific type of microorganism.
