Pumps centrifugal type

Shipping. Bulk milk is hauled to the processing plant in insulated tanks using tmck tanks or trader tankers. The milk is transferred from the bulk tank to the tanker with a positive or centrifugal-type pump. For routes of some distance, pick-up every other day reduces handling costs. [Pg.363]

Reverse Osmosis. Membranes are used for the separation of smaller components (<500 daltons). They have smaller pore space and are tighter than those used for ultrafiltration. High pressure pumps, usually of the positive piston or multistage centrifugal type, provide pressures up to 4.14 MPa (600 psi). [Pg.368]

Milk-of-lime transfer pumps should be of the open impeller centrifugal type. Pumps having an iron body and impeller with bronze trim are suitable for this purpose. Rubber-lined pumps with rubber-covered impellers are also frequently used. Makeup tanks are usually provided ahead of centrifugal pumps to ensure a flooded suction at all times. Plating out of lime is minimized by the use of soft water in the makeup tank and slurry recirculation. Turbine pumps and eductors should be avoided in transferring milk of lime because of scaling problems. [Pg.102]

Volume 1 explains that pumps ean be classified as either positive-displacement or kinetie. The same is true for compressors. In a positive displacement compressor the gas is transported from low pressure to high pressure in a device that reduces its volume and thus inereases its pressure. The most common type of positive displacement eompressors are reeiprocating and rotary (serew or vane) just as was the ease for pumps. Kinetic compressors impart a veloeity head to the gas, which is then converted to a pressure head in accordance with Bernoulli s Law as the gas is slowed down to the velocity in the discharge line. Just as was the case with pumps, centrifugal compressors are the only form of kinetic compressor commonly used. [Pg.255]

Pumps may be classified as reciprocating, rotary, or centrifugal. The first two are referred to as positive-displacement pumps because, unlike the centrifugal type, the liquid or semiliquid flow is broken into small portions as it passes through the pump. [Pg.145]

The circulation pump should be a centrifugal type with a plastic or PVC impellor, or cast iron with adequate corrosion inhibitor. The acid tank, hoses, and other equipment should be connected to and from the boiler using suitable connection points. This usually is the bottom BD connection (with the valve removed) and the open manhole as the top point. [Pg.653]

For onshore facilities, water may be supplied from local public water mains, storage tanks, lakes and rivers. In these cases a conventional horizontal pump is used. The preferred design for onshore fire water pumps is a horizontal centrifugal type with a relatively flat performance curve (i.e., pressure versus quantity). The discharge pressure is determined by the minimum residual pressure required at the most remote location of the facility flowing its highest practical demand with allowances added for piping friction losses. [Pg.207]

Forced circulation reboilers may be either horizontal or vertical. Since the feed liquid is at its bubblepoint, adequate NPSH must be assured for the pump if it is a centrifugal type. Linear velocities in the tubes of 15-20 ft/sec usually are adequate. The main disadvantages are the costs of pump and power, and possibly severe maintenance. This mode of operation is a last resort with viscous or fouling materials, or when the fraction vaporized must be kept low. [Pg.208]

As it exits from the tubes, the liquid and vapor mixture travels into a centrifugal-type vapor separator, and the liquid then flows down the suction line to a heavy-duty pump. [Pg.235]

The pump selected for the transport of red nitric acid from the absorption column to the product bleaching column is a single-stage single-suction centrifugal-type pump. An AJAX E32-20 pump is recommended for this application. The application requires the pump to satisfy a maximum flowrate of 9.5 m3/h with a maximum differential head of 450 kPa. [Pg.214]

All types of equipment, exposed to fluids in motion, are subject to the erosion-corrosion phenomena. This can include pipeline networks (particularly curves, elbows and T-squares), floodgates, pumps, centrifugal fans, helixes, wheels of turbine, tubes of intersections of heat exchangers and measuring devices. In many cases, failures due to erosion-corrosion occur in a relatively short time.16 Most metals are susceptible to erosion-corrosion in the liquid phase under specific conditions. Resistance of metals depends on the physical and chemical properties of the corrosion product and/or the... [Pg.398]

Related Calculations. Use the techniques given here for any type of pump—centrifugal, reciprocating, or rotary—handling any type of liquid—oil, water, chemicals, etc. The methods given here are the work of Melvin Mann, as reported in Chemical Engineering, and Peerless Pump Div. of FMC Corp. [Pg.225]

Pumps.—Boiler-feed pumps are of the plunger (direct-steam or power-driven) or rotary (centrifugal) type the latter being driven by a steam turbine or electric motor. Steam-driven pumps are used when there is need of their exhaust for feed-water heating. Centrifugal pumps are generally more compact, and easier to maintain than plunger pumps. [Pg.27]
