Rosen et al. (1992) compared downhole sampling using a helical rotor type of centrifugal pump with an absorption cartridge for volatile organic compounds. They found that this method of bringing water to the surface could be reliable in many circumstances but that care was needed with adsorption, cross-contamination and out gassing. 

Related Calculations. Use the procedure given here for any type of centrifugal pump where the similarity laws apply. When the term model is used, it can apply to a production test pump or to a standard unit ready for installation. The procedure presented here is the work of R. P. Horwitz, as reported in Power magazine [2]. 

Mechanical seals have fully established themselves for all types of centrifugal pumps in a variety of services. Though more costly than packing, the mechanical seal reduces pump maintenance costs.

In sulfuric acid plants various types of centrifugal pumps are used and their constructional features depend on the type of application. The pumps for handling molten sulfur and sulfuric acid are vertical submerged type centrifugal pumps. 

Fire pumps A type of centrifugal pump used for firefighting. They are generally horizontal split case, end suction, or vertical turbine.
