We now pick a promising off-the-shelf inductor — the PO150 from Pulse Engineering. Its inductance is 137 p,H, which is close to our requirement of 127 p,H, and it is rated for a continuous dc of 0.99 A, which is very close to our requirement of 1 A. Its datasheet is reproduced in Table 2-7. Note that the other conditions mentioned by the vendor do not match our application (but that is not unexpected — what are the chances of an off-the-shelf inductor that precisely matches a given application ). Nevertheless we can perform a full analysis, and thus either validate, or invalidate our choice of component.

Oxidation Catalyst. An oxidation catalyst requires air to oxidize unbumed hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. Air is provided with an engine driven air pump or with a pulse air device. Oxidation catalysts were used in 1975 through 1981 models but thereafter declined in popularity. Oxidation catalysts may be used in the future for lean bum engines and two-stroke engines.

Harmonics or multiples of 2, 3, 4, etc., of this frequency will exist and be dominant for two-cycle gas engines, and one half multiples will be dominant for four-cycle engines. If several single-acting cylinders are operating on the same system in parallel, the magnitude of the pulses will depend upon the combination of cylinders and crank throws, and this magnitude is additive for the simultaneous waves in phase.
