Clinicians should use standardized psychiatric rating scales to rate response objectively. The four-item Positive Symptom Rating Scale and the Brief Negative Symptom Assessment are scales that are brief enough to be useful in the outpatient setting. [Pg.826]

Sandoz Clinical Assessment-Geriatric. The Sandoz Clinical Assessment-Geriatric (SCAG) test measures 18 individual symptoms plus a global rating using a seven-point scale similar to those used in the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale. It measures the present period or that within the last week, requires about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and does not contain subtests. [Pg.815]

Children s Diagnostic Classification. Children s Diagnostic Classification (CDC) test may be used instead of the Children s Psychiatric Rating Scale (CPRS) to arrive at a diagnosis. This differs from the CPRS in that it is highly directed and leads the observer to a diagnosis. It rates the current status of the child and may be used at pretreatment and/or the termination of the clinical trial. [Pg.816]

Children s Psychiatric Rating Scale. The CPRS is a comprehensive scale to assess a wide range of psychopathologies in children up to age 15. It contains 63 items, with a seven-point scale derived from the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). This test rates 28 items by direct observation of the child, based on behavior... [Pg.816]

Most psychiatric rating scales only cover pathologically orientated items and, in the event of clinical improvement, merely indicate reduction in pathology or. in the best case, normalization. What they do not record are positive, desirable forms of behavior that are also present or can supplant pathological characteristics in the course of therapy. [Pg.196]

Three terms beginning with the letter R are used to describe the improvement of a depressed patient after treatment with an antidepressant, namely response, remission, and recovery. The term response generally means that a depressed patient has experienced at least a 50% reduction in symptoms as assessed on a standard psychiatric rating scale such as the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (Fig. 5—2). This also generally corresponds to a global clinical rating of the patient as much improved or very much improved. Remission, on the other hand, is the term used when essentially all symptoms go away, not just 50% of them (Fig. 5-3). The patient is not better the patient is actually well. If this lasts for 6 to 12 months, remission is then considered to be recovery (Fig. 5—3). [Pg.142]
