Promoters, inducible

Depending on the change a promoter induces on the work function, catalyst surface, a major distinction can be made between electropositive (electron donor) and electronegative (electron acceptor) adsorbates. [Pg.24]

These two complementary mles are intuitively obvious, e.g. can be simply derived by considering the lateral attractive and repulsive interactions of coadsorbed reactants and promoters as already shown in section 4.5.9.2. They can explain all the observed promotionally induced kinetics for more than sixty different catalytic systems (Table 6.1). As an example these two rules can explain all the observed changes in kinetics orders with [Pg.299]

II. Ease of electrical connection Here the main problem is that of efficient electrical current collection, ideally with only two electrical leads entering the reactor and without an excessive number of interconnects, as in fuel cells. This is because the competitor of an electrochemically promoted chemical reactor is not a fuel cell but a classical chemical reactor. The main breakthrough here is the recent discovery of bipolar or wireless NEMCA,8 11 i.e. electrochemical promotion induced on catalyst films deposited on a solid electrolyte but not directly connected to an electronic conductor (wire). [Pg.515]

Furthermore, we found that the two types of tumor promoters induced common biological effects, such as irritation of mouse ear, and stimulation of prostaglandin E2 production and of arachidonic acid metabolism in rat macrophages. These common effects seem to be the most essential biological activities in tumor promotion (6). [Pg.238]

In spite of much theoretical work, we still do not have a complete picture of why the Co and Ni-promoted M0S2 catalyst is so successful. Interpretations range from the promoter-induced weakening of the metal-to-sulfur bond strength to the presence of unique sulfur species bound between molybdenum and the promoter. [Pg.357]

Similar procedures adopted for the synthesis of TS-1 (the mixed alkoxide method, dissolved titanium method, pre-hydrolysis method, wetness impregnation method, and promoter induced synthesis method) were also used for the synthesis of TS-2. Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) instead of TPAOH was used as the template (6,7,305-308). [Pg.167]

Figure 9.11 Promoter-induced binding energy shifts of Ar, Kr and Xe photoemission peaks with respect to adsorption on the clean metal as a function of the distance of the adsorption site to the nearest potassium atom on a potassium-promoted Rh( 111) surface. These curves reflect the variation of the surface potential (or local work function) around an adsorbed potassium atom. Note the strong and distance-dependent local work function at short distances and the constant local work function, which is lower than that of clean Rh( 111) at larger distances from potassium. The lowering at larger distances depends on the potassium coverage. The averaged distances between the potassium atoms are 1.61, 1.32 and 1.20 nm for coverages of 2.7, 4.1 and 5.0% respectively, vertical lines mark the half-way distances. Lines are drawn as a guide to the eye (adapted from Janssens et al. [38]). Unlike to zeolite catalysts acidic sites hardly play any role in the C-methylation of 2-Et-A on oC-Fe Oj or GeOg-FegO since germanium promotion induces a considerable increases in the 2-Et-6-Me-A yield and selectivity while acidity remains practically unchanged. Regarding that the yield of the N-alkyl derivatives is only slightly influenced by germanium the participation of the weak basic or acidic sites in the N-methylation can not be ruled out. [Pg.529]

A wide variety of E coli strains designed for protein expression are commercially available, derived from the E. coli strain BL21, that are tailored to facilitate disulfide bond formation, fine-tune protein expression levels, enhance the expression of proteins that contain rare codons, and other specific requirements. These strains are available as lambda DE3 lysogens, which carry a chromosomal copy of the T7 RNA polymerase gene under control of the lac promoter (inducible by IPTG). Once induced, the T7 RNA polymerase drives expression of genes that are under control of the T7 promoter, such as those cloned into the pET family of expres-... [Pg.118]

Tumor promoters alter pathways that cooperate with the genetic changes present in the initiated cell to produce the selective growth of that cell. Generic mechanisms of tumor promotion are shown in Table 24.6. Although the precise molecular/bio-chemical mechanisms of tumor promotion are unknown, we do know that certain receptors, growth factors, transcription factors, cytokines, and kinases are involved in tumor promotion induced by a particular tumor promoter. [Pg.560]
