Ca2+ depletion has been shown to change the binding affinity of Mn, to modulate the exchange coupling within the Mn cluster and to mediate photooxidation of the Mn ions (see reference 431).Based on the spin-projection model for clusters with localized spins coupled by two-centre spin-exchange interaction468 possible structural models have been evaluated as candidates for the OEC. Three model were found to satisfy the constraints of the EPR and most other spectroscopic data, furthermore possible locations of Ca2+ were proposed (for a thorough discussion see reference 431). 

If an asymmetric unit is placed at ( i,t/i), then the fourfold axis places three more asymmetric units at (— t/i,Xi), (— Xi,— t/i), (t/i,— Xi). Thus, if caffeine is our asymmetric unit, it can not be placed too close to the fourfold axis since this would result in an overlap of the van der Waals radii with the three other caffeine molecules generated by the fourfold axis. By taking all of the symmetry operations of the space group P4/n into consideration there is only a limited area in which the initial projected model can be placed. 

Acid rain control will produce significant benefits in terms of lowered surface water acidity. Although measured levels of emissions are used as a basis for calculating emissions in future years, such measurements are not used as directly as one might think. Rather, combinations of estimated or average emission factors, activity levels, and control efficiencies are used to obtain estimates of emissions. The level of detail at which these emission estimates are provided varies considerably. The choice of a projection model for use in analysis is dependent upon the desired detail in and the intended use for the results. 

This review will illustrate examples of computer projected models of inclusion complexes of structural isomers (ortho, meta, para nitrophenol), enantiomers (d- and 1- propranolol) and diastereomers [cis and trans. l(p-B-dimethylaminoethoxy-phenyl-butene), tamoxifen] in either a- or B-cyclodextrin. The use of these computer projections of the crystal structures of these complexes allows for the demonstration and prediction of the chromatographic behavior of these agents on immobilized cyclodextrin.

Can we predict these costs beforehand If a conrpany is considering committing capital to a new project, then in order to determine if that capital investment would be a vise one, that is, one that would meet expected rates of return and would be superior to placing the capital in other investments or projects, modeling of the new process must be done to calculate the expected costs of production. This modeling must begin with kinetics. 

In the DECOVALEX I project, modeling was conducted on three hypothetical BMTs and six TCs, involving three small laboratory tests of rock samples and fractures, and three large field tests. Details may be found in Jing et al. (1995). One of the BMTs simulated a Swedish KBS-3 disposal concept in a fractured granitic rock with a fracture network system and properties similar to those of the Stripa granite. This case will be presented in more detail in section 5. 

Abstract As a part of the DECOVALEX 111 project—model predictions were carried out of thermomechanical (TM) rock-mass responses at the Yucca Mountain drift scale test (DST), Nevada. This paper presents model predictions of TM-induced rock displacements at the DST carried out by two independent research teams using two different approaches and two different numerical models. Displacements predicted by the two independent analyses compare reasonably well to the measured ones, both in trends and average magnitude. The analyses indicate that the rock mass behaviour is essentially elastic and that the in situ rock mass thermal expansion coefficient is well represented a temperature-dependent thermal-expansion derived from laboratory tests on intact rock. 

The Lagrangian Stochastic Advective Reaction (LaSAR) framework (Cvetkovic et al., 1999) has been used in the prediction and evaluation of the TRUE program (Cvetkovic et al., 2 XX)) and in the Task Force project modelling (Cheng and Cvetkovic, in prep). The same framework is employed in this study. 

Significant progress has been made in petroleum engineering modelling over the last 15 years or so, not only in the development of the coupled models and the incorporation of the necessary interactions, but especially in the use of computer projected models so that the understanding and perception of the modelling output is enhanced.
