I assisted an architectural-engineering firm in conducting several lessons learned (LL) workshops. The group documented over 100 LLs. Many were nuances related to their particular organization and clients, not the kind of project management advice found in text and professional practice books. This experience further suggests the value in conducting project post-mortems. Incidentally, the U.S. military calls these After-Action Reviews (AARs). See Whitten (2007) for more ideas. 

In order to accomplish with the aforementioned aim, during the first year of project, an extensive research on the different chemical additives used in six industrial sectors was conducted plastics, textiles, electronics, lubricants, leather, and paper. A list of selected chemical additives was identified for each sector and used as a study basis for the rest of the project. This is the case of the decabromo-diphenyl ether (BDE) used in electronics as a flame retardant or the triclosan used in the textile as a biocide. The results of this investigation were presented in the first volume of this book (Global Risk-Based Management of Chemical Additives I Production, Usage and Environmental Occurrence). This volume also included a section of case studies related to the selected additives in different countries (i.e., Denmark, Vietnam, Brazil, India). CPM is now widely used in planning and managing construction projects however, CPM can also be used for any project consistent with the broad definition of project presented in Chapter 5. A related, but more sophisticated method is the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) as described by PMI (2008) and Wikipedia (2011c). The author would recommend that generic documentation related to plans and processes for safety management on the project shoirld not orrly be ineluded in the hazard log directory, but should be integrated with the projeet dociunent management system. 

From the list provided in the fiamewoik, it can therefore be seen that the competencies required of an ISA may be wider than just the specific competencies contained in the ISA section of the Blue Book and could include technical skills such as Project Safety Assurance Management, Safety Validation, and engineering disciplines such as Safety-related System Software Reahsation.
