Process management concept

Management systems for chemical process safety are comprehensive sets of policies, procedures, and practices designed to ensure that barriers to major incidents are in place, in use, and effective. The management systems serve to integrate process safety concepts into ongoing activities of everyone involved in operations— from the chemical process operator to the chief executive officer. 

The framework is mainly based on the supply chain management framework of Rohde et al. (2000). Rohde s work is gradually enhanced to address the aspects of synchronized decision making within the value chain and the integration of supply, demand and value management concepts as shown in fig. 17. The framework is structured into the areas value chain, processes and methods. 

Portfolio management concepts have been an accepted component of the financial services realm for decades, and the need to diversify risk continues to be an effective organizing principle for many financial instruments and analytic techniques. Risk assessment is also a key component in the pharmaceutical world, where as few as 1 in 5000 laboratory-tested compounds ever makes it to the market. As such, the pipeline portfolio is a critical indicator of the future of a pharmaceutical firm, and the process of analyzing and managing it effectively is of vital strategic importance. 

Four new informatics concepts were introduced in Sect. 1.1 and discussed in detail in Chap. 3 Direct process support based on developers experience, consistency control between different developers results based on underlying structures, direct communication between developers that is related to organized cooperation, and reactive management being able to cover the dynamic situations within design processes. These concepts are new and give valuable support within development processes, as to be seen from the demo description of Sect. 1.2.

Most service-management concepts discussed so far clearly show an affiliation to either the production line view or the human resource or customer and marketing-oriented view on services. These different views have not been integrated much, mainly because very different scientific disciplines are involved. Obviously, both approaches are needed. Nowadays service processes are highly complex and call for the application of sophisticated methods from industrial engineering, while on the other hand the outcome depends heavily on the performance of employees and customers. 

Assessment is another management concept that aims at integrating all relevant factors. Especitilly in the field of quality management, assessments have become very popular in recent years. There are numerous examples of successful application. Here the term assessment denotes several different but similar methods that serve mainly as a tool for analyzing and documenting the actual status of an organization.
