An interesting analogy to the history of algebra appears here. The matrix (lat. matrix) took its name from the printing stamp, because the latter indeed served the inventor of matrix algebra, James Joseph Sylvester (1814-1897), for automatically cutting out the determinants. 

Injection-molded articles can be decorated by in-mold labeling or by post-mold decoration. In the former method, printed film is inserted into the mold cavity before injection. The plastic forms an intimate contact with the graphic material. Post-mold decoration includes hot stamping, dry offset printing, and decal printing. 

Adhesive Transfer Processes. Many polymers, whether dehberately or accidentally, are adhesives, so that much of the adhesive industry can be regarded as a part of the mbber and plastics industry. However, there are several important material-transfer appHcations involving polymer products that are so critically dependent on controlled adhesion that they merit specific mention in that category. They include hot stamping foils, release coatings for pressure-sensitive adhesive products, photocopier materials, transfer coatings, and transfer printing of textiles. 

Base Metal Finishes. The low cost of base metal finishes obviates selective coating. Electro deposition is used for 0.5—5 p.m thick coatings of tin and tin—lead alloy, usually about 50 wt % Sn, 50 wt % Pb, on electronic connector contacts, on contacts at the edges of printed circuit boards, and on terminals. Sheet copper alloys that have been coated with tin—lead alloy are widely used for contacts that are stamped and then formed into the desired shapes, such as pins having a closed end and sockets. Aluminum connectors that have utility—industrial appHcations are more thickly coated, and hot-dipping in molten tin is common.

Sublimation (diffusion) printing is a textile process in which color patterns in dry die crystals are transferred from a release film to the fabric under high heat and pressure. The process has been adapted to plastics. The equipment used is very similar to that used for hot stamping. Under heat and pressure, the dye crystals sublime (go directly to the vapor phase from the solid phase without melting) and the vapor penetrates the plastic product. As a result, the decoration is very durable and wear resistant. It is also cost competitive against other processes such as two-step injection molding or silk screening. 

Also, electronic SOPs and protocols must be available to staff at all test sites for multisite studies. If the electronic documents are to be available at several sites, the validation phase of the system must include functionality testing at each site. Documentation of system validation needs to be available at each test site as well. Electronic SOPs must have a limited life span when printed to avoid the use of an outdated document. This may be achieved by stamping each SOP hard copy Printout not valid after date xx/xx/xx . This practice helps to ensure that system users will not retain printed SOPs long after the electronic SOP is revised. For company SOPs that are to be followed by an outside contractor who has no access to the electronic system, an alternative stamp may be used on the hard-copy SOPs that will be provided to the contractor that defines the date printed or indicates that the SOP is valid for use in a particular study. Whatever procedure is used, it must be clearly documented in an SOP.
