Step 2. With a straight line, connect the point for carbon dioxide on the primary scale with the density-temperature intersection and extend the line to intersect the reference line 1. 

Connect Point A, with a ruler, to the known value of 0 on the primary scale. Extend this line up to the intersecting point with the Y scale. (Read the Y value as an intermediate result). 

The basic principles employed in the preparation of parenteral products do not vary from those widely used in other sterile and non-sterile liquid preparations. However, it is imperative that all calculations are made in an accurate and most precise manner. Therefore, an issue of a parenteral solution scale-up essentially becomes a liquid scale-up task, which requires a high degree of accuracy. A practical yet scientifically sound means of performing this scale-up analysis of liquid parenteral systems is presented below. The approach is based on the scale of agitation method. For singlephase liquid systems, the primary scale-up criterion is equal liquid motion when comparing pilot-size batches to a larger production-size batches. 

In its simplest form, the ratio of screw diameter is the basis for scaling. The ratio of the large diameter D2 of the large scale unit to the small diameter Z>i of the lab unit is represented by the lower case d as shown in Table 4. The primary scaling variables are channel depth H, screw length L, helix angle cj), and screw speed N. The ratio of the primary variables of the two scales is then expressed as a power of the screw diameter ratio, d. 

Acrylonitrile is commercially produced from propylene by a molybdate-based catalyst that has been optimized to produce a yield of around 80% acrylonitrile. Utilizing a less-expensive feedstock, the selective ammoxidation of propane to acrylonitrile has significant potential in reducing acrylonitrile production cost. The work-flow for this chemistry consisted of a primary scale evaporative synthesis station and 256-channel parallel screening reactor using a proprietary optical-based detection method. For the initial work shown here, secondary screening was done on a six-channel fixed-bed reactor. 

The state-of-the-art catalyst system is a Mo-V-Nb-Te mixed oxide [52], This catalyst is quite sensitive to its synthesis and process parameters and the automated catalyst synthesis tools described above were capable of synthesizing these and other challenging mixed metal oxides successfully. The workflow was validated by synthesizing a region of the known Mo-V-Nb-Te catalyst system phase space in the primary scale and secondary scale (Fig. 3.19a and b).
