Valves pressure regulator

Most continuous pressure filters available (ca 1993) have their roots in vacuum filtration technology. A rotary dmm or rotary disk vacuum filter can be adapted to pressure by enclosing it in a pressure cover however, the disadvantages of this measure are evident. The enclosure is a pressure vessel which is heavy and expensive, the progress of filtration cannot be watched, and the removal of the cake from the vessel is difficult. Other complications of this method are caused by the necessity of arranging for two or more differential pressures between the inside and outside of the filter, which requires a troublesome system of pressure regulating valves.

Back pressure regulation valves (Figure 9.5) can be used in the suction line, and their function is to prevent the evaporator pressure falling below a predetermined or controlled value, although the compressor suction pressure may be lower. 

A service gauge is usually fitted adjacent to the valve or as part of the valve assembly, to facilitate setting or readjustment. Above about 40 mm pipe size, the basic back pressure regulation valve is used as a pilot to operate a main servo valve. Other pilot signals can be used on the same servo.

Select the size of the pilot-controlled pressure-regulating valve. Enter the capacity table in the engineering data of an acceptable pilot-controlled pressure-regulating valve, similar to Table 6.17, at the required capacity, 30,000 lb/h, and project across until the correct inlet steam pressure column, 225 psig, is intercepted, and read the required valve size as 4 in. 

Related Calculations. To simplify pressure-reducing and pressure-regulating valve selection, become familiar with two or three acceptable valve manufacturers engineering data. Use the procedures given in the engineering data or those given here to select valves for industrial, marine, utility, heating, process, laundry, kitchen, or hospital service with a saturated or superheated steam supply. 

Gas leaves the surge drum via a pressure regulating valve (C) and the suction to the suction trap of the fridge plant. The system is controlled by the pilot valve mounted on the control valve (C). On manual systems, this is adjusted by hand to give the desired temperature indication on the pressure gauge. On automatic systems, this is linked via controller to the liquid temperature measuring device (G) (57).

After calculations of the desired flow rates and consequent required flow conditions, the entire gas line is purged by alternate pumping and filling with the desired gases. The metering valve V(2) and the flow meter pressure regulating valve V(3) are adjusted to provide the conditions of flow meter pressure PFM and flow meter indication necessary to produce with accuracy the desired flow rates. The first continuous-flow reactor was developed by Strauss [144—148] and has recently been commercialized. It consists of microwave cavity fitted with a tubular coil (3 m X 3 mm) of microwave-transparent, inert material (Fig. 13.3). The coil is attached to a metering pump and pressure gauge at the inlet end and to a heat exchanger and pressure-regulating valve at the effluent end. Temperature is monitored outside the cavity at the inlet and the outlet.
