Preface to the revised edition

PREFACE TO THE REVISED EDITION vii CHAPTER 15 MATERIALS HANDLING 194... [Pg.608]

Details of the current restructuring of this Chemical Engineering Series, coinciding with the publication of the Fourth Edition of Volumes 1 and 2 and to be followed by new editions of the other volumes, have been set out in the Preface to the Fourth Edition of Volume 1. The revision involves the inclusion in Volume 1 of material on non-Newtonian flow (previously in Volume 3) and the transference from Volume 2 to Volume 1 of Pneumatic and Hydraulic Conveying and Liquid Mixing. In addition, Volume 6, written by Mr. R. K. Sinnott, which first appeared in 1983, nearly thirty years after the first volumes, acquires some of the design-orientated material from Volume 2, particularly that related to the hydraulics of packed and plate columns. [Pg.1199]

In the preface to the first edition, I stated that this is "primarily a textbook, written with student backgrounds, needs, and objectives in mind." This continues to be true of the second edition, and many of the revisions I have made are attempts to make the book even more useful than its predecessor to student readers. In addition, colloid and surface science continue to flourish. In preparing the second edition I have also attempted to "open up" the coverage to include some of the newer topics from an ever-broadening field. [Pg.686]

In each of the prefaces to the two editions of the World List, a special description of the rules employed in constructing the abbreviations is given. The rules of the International Code of Abbreviations for Titles of Periodicals (1930) and its supplement (1932) were utihzed in revising the directions given in the first edition 22), A brief summary of these rules, as they now exist, is as follows ... [Pg.47]

We are indebted to Dr Podesta and Dr Heine from Bayer AG for their assistance in the revision of the German edition in addition to the institutions and colleagues mentioned in the preface to the German edition. [Pg.648]

In this revision, I tried to stay true to the features that attracted me to the text initially, well described in Professor Stowell s preface to the second edition. The organization of the book remains much the same. The chapter on mechanisms has been moved to early pages of the book, as has been the chapter on pericyclic reactions. My inclination is to teach mechanisms early as a foundation for the study of reactions, but all the chapters have been written with the intent that they can be introduced to the student in any order. As much as possible, open source materials are cited allowing students ready access to the original literature, but at the same time, the early work on a topic is found in older literature and that historical value is recognized. The second chapter has been completely rewritten to focus on internet accessible resources. The last chapter has also been completely rewritten to focus on a survey of organic spectroscopy. [Pg.370]

Everything which has been said in the preface to the first German and first and second English editions still holds and essentially does not need any addition or correction. In this revised third edition in English the manuscript has been updated and various recent aspects of energetic materials have been added ... [Pg.328]

The guiding principle of this new edition is the same as that which Kaminsky enunciated in the preface to the edition which he had revised ... [Pg.410]

Prefaces to the previous two editions have had quotations from the famous mass spectrometrist Mao Tse-Tung. As suggested by Drs. Roy W. King and Kain Sze Kwok, William Shakespeare also deserves citation, saying in Hamlet Witness this army, of such mass and charge . Perhaps he anticipated the new co-author s revisions in Chapter 8 with his words in Coriolanus Get you home, you fragments . [Pg.326]

The original edition was produced with a major contribution from F R Coe, with support from others cited in the preface. This revised edition owes a considerable debt to Mr Coe. The revisions were made most especially by N Bailey, T G Gooch, P H M Hart, N Jenkins and R J Pargeter. [Pg.156]

Over the last few years, I had the pleasure to edit a couple of special issues of the journal Molecular Simulation (Taylor Francis) on the topic of Industrial Applications of Molecular Simulation (in 2006 and in 2008 with a focus on Materials Studio). Many authors, from academia, from government research centers or from the industry, have contributed to the success of these special issues. After having received a subsequent number of requests for the manuscripts, the publisher (T F) invited me to convert both journal publications into a book as it is a better format for distribution. I have then reinvited a short list of authors who have either resubmitted the original copy of their work or a revised version with new materials or color figures. I, too, have revised my editorials, which I include in this preface. [Pg.401]
